How long can it take to hear back if a motion to reopen the case has been filed, and a motion to stop deportation as well?
My brother in law is detained right now by ice for having a deportation order because he didn't go to the court. He came in 2014 when he was 17 years old.no criminal records. The deportation order was made in mid-2015. He was arrested on may 6 2016 motions were filed the next day.
Please,
please,
please tell us that your brother-in-law has a lawyer.
How long can it take? A very long time ... and, unfortunately, he'll probably be held in jail w/o a bond ... possibly even being deported by 'activating' the old deportation order.
Keep in contact with the lawyer.

No specific time, but getting representation now would be best bet to start working on this
There is no fixed time within which you have to get a decision. This is too important for your brother in law to handle without the help of an experienced immigration attorney.
