Question

Do i have to pay support now if my child leaves home on his own and moves in with his father who currently pays support?

my 18 year old child moved out on his own and moved in with his father. am i obligated to pay child support when he left on his own? I did not want him to leave. if i do will child support cancel out because i have a 16 yr old still living with me that the same father pays support for? or will the judge have both of us pay to our 18 yr old? or end support for my 18 yr old even though he was to pay til hes 21?

There will be no change in the support obligation until one of you files a petition in Family Court. If one of you does file it would seem likely that the father's support obligation for your older child will be terminated and that you will have a support obligation, while the obligation regarding the younger child will be unchanged.

However that will not necessarily mean the obligations cancel out.
