also known as Zak Griefen
Hello,
My name is Zak Griefen. I graduated from Vermont Law School on a full merit scholarship in 2005, where I earned a J.D., cum laude, and a Master of Studies in Environmental Law, magna cum laude. During law school, I was the Vermont Editor of the Vermont Law Review and a student clinician at the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic.
After law school, I served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Thomas Durkin and the Honorable Merideth Wright at the Vermont Environmental Court. The Vermont Environmental Court has broad jurisdiction over environmental matters, hearing appeals from municipal boards and commissions, appeals from Act 250 decisions, and Agency of Natural Resources, Natural Resource Board, and municipal enforcement cases.
After my clerkship I entered private practice with the law firm of Cheney, Brock & Saudek, P.C., in Montpelier, building a practice concentrating in environmental law and land use permitting. In October 2011, I joined the Conservation Law Foundation as an environmental enforcement litigator. In 2016, I was promoted to Senior Enforcement Litigator.
In May 2019, I joined Bricklin & Newman, LLP in Seattle.
I am curently admitted to practice in Vermont, Federal District Court of Vermont, Massachusetts, Federal District Court of Massachusetts, Federal District Court of Connecticut, Federal District Court of New Hampshire, Washington, Federal District Court of Washington, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
