Poor Communication, Representation and Execution

Attorney Cale was my attorney of record in family court for a couple of years. To start off, he had a dismal outcome in a placement change/court study. Clear to all, including this study itself, what was better for the children. Cale nor the study out reflected this. Fast forward to the past two ...years, Cale has discouraged filing contempt motions for large items, does not return calls and is impossible to get ahold of. When I call the office I am told he is busy and unavailable. In a conversation this winter, I did discover that he hasn't been busy as a lawyer, but has written 6 books. I was flabbergasted at the news. Fast forward to this spring, again I am unable to get ahold of him. We have had easy pending issues to get addressed since September of last year with perfect direction. He failed to execute. Again, I call the office- not available and does return phone calls. I was able to finally make an appointment. On the day and time when I called in, I was told Cale was under deadlines and wasn't able to take my call. In recap, Cale displayed poor communication, poor advice and execution.

Not only a great attorney human being as well

Me and Cale had a consult together almost a year and a half ago to help me get custody of my four-year-old daughter. He then became my attorney and went to fight for me immediately. Cale really knows the law and how to handle himself in a courtroom how to talk to judges and Commissioners. He is also ...a good caring person at heart and was there for me when I needed him. We were able to get an awesome outcome out of the custody case it took forever but that was not his fault the Courts system is very slow but he did an outstanding job. I referred him to my friend who is having some criminal trouble in a criminal case and he became his attorney as well and went to bat for him and was able to get an awesome outcome as well I highly recommend Cale he truly is a great attorney and a great human being.

The Bare Minimum

Cale was fine at first, but it became clear my case became the lowest of priorities within a month of two. I was given the bare minimum communication regarding the status (and often only after soliciting it), and he was unreachable by phone. I also was given no final consultation to answer any questi...ons, in fact I was never told things were wrapped up until I received a bill in the mail from the state. Despite this, we went significantly over the retainer and I didn't receive any discount for the poor service I'd received. Cale had some reasonable excuses for the decline in service, but unfortunately that is not my problem and he made no effort to compensate for this.

I apologize for anything I might have done that would have given you the perception that your matter was a bottom priority for me. Often matters will take months to come to a conclusion and I try to avoid constant updates to my clients only to inform them that nothing has happened (which would only serve to raise the bill). I do make a point of contacting my clients and letting them know when a new development has happened in their case. I am often in Court/on the road for other matters so reaching me is difficult without scheduling an appointment through my paralegal. I apologize if reaching me was difficult or if scheduling a meeting in advance was an inconvenience. As for my retainers, I usually try to keep them affordable. They are NOT an estimate of what I think a matter will cost, but an estimate of what a matter will cost to get started (in recognition that most individuals do not have the significant sums of money needed to carry a legal case to conclusion sitting around in their bank accounts). I apologize for the misunderstanding on this matter. I do not have any idea who wrote this, but if you would like to contact me I can talk to you more about your situation and I can explain what happened in your case with you.

Cale failed to communicate during the entire process for which he was hired. Cale did not respond to phone calls or emails. I had previously hired Cale for another issue relating to a property purchase agreement and he failed to do anything more than some mediocre research and left everything to the ...last possible minute. I should have learned from my first awful experience with Cale that he wouldn't be capable of handling something of the utmost urgency - something that impacted the safety of my elderly mother. Don't ever rely on Cale for anything more than a research item if even that. If you have an urgent, even slightly important issue find someone that has more experience, has communication skill (or even a cell phone of their own, not someone else's). He notified me with 30 minutes until our initial meeting on the issue relating to my mother that he was going to have to reschedule, as I was on my way out of the country, he didn't respond to anything after that for over two weeks with multiple attempts on my end to get some communication flow from him, even costing me more money to have to repeatedly call his different numbers from overseas. Don't waste a minute of your time or a single one of your dimes to fool around with this "lawyer" if you can call him that. Go find someone that is experienced, and capable. He can't even do the most basic of things. He's constantly coming up with excuse after excuse, is inexperienced, and has an uncanny inability to accomplish any simple task, and is not trustworthy to say the least. I tried to put it nicely to Cale the first time he failed me and let him know he was relieved of his duty, this time I FIRED him to instead utilize a capable resource. Never would I recommend Cale or this one person show he calls a law office.

I rescheduled an intake interview with the individual in question for 45 minutes later on the same day due to an emergency on another case (after it had previously been scheduled on Dec. 31 for Jan. 2 (I was not in the office on new years day). The individual informed me of a time that they would have to be out of the city on Jan. 2 and we scheduled the meeting for 2 hours before the individual claimed they had to be out of the city. I did not receive a call from the individual canceling the intake session or telling me that the time I picked was unacceptable until much later after it had been missed. I then opened e-mail communications with the individual, but it took several days for the individual to respond. Within four days I drafted and sent the individual a contract that would need to be signed and returned in order to employ me. The individual requested a fairly minor change to the contract. At the time the change was requested I had two contested hearings come up and could not make the change, review the contract and get it out for a little over a week. It was not over two weeks as the individual claimed. The individual decided not to hire me the day I was going to send the updated contract and open a file on the case. I was not employed on this matter and the total delay involved was about a week and a half. As for the 'first awful experience,' I performed research and communicated with another attorney on behalf of the individual. I can only conclude that the client did not like the result of the research I performed on his behalf. I try to be honest with clients about what I assess their chances of success to be with a case. That matter (in which I was employed by the individual) was handled to conclusion without any inkling on my part of their being an issue within 1-3 weeks of hearing back from the opposing party. During that time I communicated with the individual on roughly a weekly basis. I was never informed that I was 'relieved of my duty' I was instead told to stop working on the file because the client had come to a non-litigious solution. I will admit there were delays in that matter (some on my end some on the (largely because the indeterminate nature of the research) and some because of the opposing attorney). I think it is unfortunate that the individual felt they were wronged in this matter, and I stayed in regular contact with the individual from early to mid-January when I became bogged down and unfortunately was not able to respond as promptly as the individual would like. I have apologized to the individual for the week and a half when I had trouble reaching him, but as you can tell from the above review the individual is irate. I never was offered nor accepted money from the individual on the primary matter mentioned in this review and I would have comped a significant portion of my work due to the delay by way of an apology.

Wonderful criminal defense attorney

I hired Cale to be my attorney when I was arrested. We sat down and discuss what happen and what would be the best solution to handle the case. He made sure that I was comfortable before he did anything. I do recommend Cale if you need a criminal defense lawyer.
