I cannot more highly recommend Katie Carlo! Her skill, knowledge, compassion and high ethical standard is unsurpassed. Katie made a very stressful, emotional and difficult situation somehow more manageable. Her level of experience was evident from the very first meeting when she was able to compe...tently and quickly assess the situation, formulate a plan and offer sound guidance to me. It was the first time in a long time that I felt like things would be ok. Finances were definitely a concern to me, and Katie continually helped me find ways to move forward in the most economical way possible without compromising on the final outcome. Now more than ever, I appreciate Katie’s attention to detail in drafting my child custody agreement! While aggressive when she needs to be, she was able to diffuse highly emotional situations and kept the whole, long process focused on the important matters instead of wasting time and resources on inconsequential things. Katie seemed to always be a step ahead in anticipating what was to come in my ever evolving situation. She never pushed me to make a decision but ensured that I had a good understanding of my options and I was prepared to make those decisions when the time came. Despite the fact that she was highly recommended to me by a friend, I almost did not go meet Mrs. Carlo because I do not live in a nearby county and was concerned about the long distance to her office and the fact that I thought she might not know how to navigate the county courts in my area as well as a local attorney. These fears were completely unfounded. Throughout the entire process, Katie was so approachable and pleasant. She was always available and managed the courts in my county with great finesse, sparing me a court appearance. I cannot imagine a better outcome to such a difficult situation and am so grateful that I was able to work with such an ethical and competent lawyer. Katherine Carlo first met me when I was a jumbled up ball of nerves. Family court, a divorce, and a nasty ex and kids involved is not something anyone goes through with grace. She met me where I was and showed amazing empathy and compassion while silently forging a plan for success in her head. Sh...e listened to me, got every detail in one swoop, and then when I was emotionally ready; asked me what I wanted to get out of the divorce. She is professional, quite the bull dog-but quite the lady when necessary, and smart! She was referred to me by someone I highly trusted- and my life has never been the same ever since. Katie is someone who is genuine, accountable, reliable, and there when you need her the most. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Katherine. I could not be more pleased with my experience with Katherine. I went through a very painful divorce over the past two years and she did an excellent job navigating me through the process. While all divorces are unique in some way, most folks are primarily concern...ed with the separation of finances and child custody. From my first appointment, Katherine efficiently and effectively learned my situation (including unique characteristics) and crafted a plan of action. It is easy to see that Katherine is an experienced attorney and very familiar with the Alexandria City and Fairfax County Court systems. She is very aware of all the emotional pitfalls/arguments that her clients and their soon-to-be ex-spouses can fall into during the divorce process. She does a great job defusing potentially painful and expensive situations through her sage legal advice and interactions with opposing attorneys. As most people know, the divorce process can be very expensive. While the number of issues that cannot be resolved between the divorcing couples will obviously increase the cost of a divorce, Katherine made every effort to efficiently use the hours of work billed. She was able to keep the cost of the entire process several thousand dollars lower than what I was expecting. As for child custody, Katherine worked very effectively with the opposing attorney to ensure my most important desires/demands were codified in the separation/child custody agreement. Although raising a child in a split household is never the best situation, I could not be more pleased with how the final agreement turned out. Katherine was a major factor in this positive child custody outcome. Again, I highly endorse Katherine.

I hired Carlo to defend my (father) rights to my child. Not only was she continually antagistic towards me, she (after billing $5000 over about 2 months) told me she "didn't believe in my case" and that I should find another lawyer. It seemed to me (after I found scrambled to find a good lawyer) that... she probably felt this way from the beginning but just kept billing me until it was getting close to court time, and she simply didn't want to defend me. This is not the type of person you want defending you - notably if you are a male! You have been warned!
