Overcharged for services

We used this law firm for our construction dispute a while ago and left with a soured view by the time all was over. To begin, our case was quite simple. Mr. Dickson quoted us an estimate up front before turning our case over to one of his newer associates. After being told over the phone that the... first consult would be free of charge, I discovered in the next billing cycle we had actually been charged $350 to meet with Mr. Dickson. On this day, I had come to their office to drop off paperwork pertaining to our case. What happened though, is that the receptionist announced Mr. Dickson was in and wanted to introduce us. Moments later, we were seated in a conference room where he began to ask questions about our case. Had I known we were being charged for this, we would have simply left. These are the things that, as a client, would have been appreciated had they been disclosed in advance. Communication on our end was always clear and concise, yet, the new attorney would call with questions to things we'd already given her information to. And we were charged for those calls as well. These phone calls added up to some serious dough. In the end, our legal fees well exceeded the amount Mr. Dickson estimated. Our case was a simple one- as the other party defaulted and there was no back and forth communication whatsoever with the other party. In the end, we saw most of our judgement get paid back in excessive legal fees. We felt this office did not serve our best interests, nor work in an efficient manner. The staff seems nice enough, but in the end, I guess it's all in a days work.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2014.

Reprimand issued in WA, 2014

updated on 07/02/2014

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.
