Thomas Peter Cossitt

I hired Tom Cossitt to represent me in a custody case. For the first 2 weeks he called me by the wrong name and put the wrong name on legal papers sent to my ex-husband's attorney. He asked me to work on very "important" documents then he wouldn't get back to me because he was busy with other clien...ts and missed deadlines with the court... then he would say well they weren't that important anyway. He told me to say mostly positive things about my ex-husband to the Child Family Investigator so I didn't look like the crazy, bitter ex-wife and wanted to re-write (and did) what I wrote to the CFI to make it all sound positive. My new attorney said it made it sound like my ex was a great father - he was NOT! I felt like Tom Cossitt was fighting me the whole way, never once did I feel like he was on my side fighting for me. It was absolutely awful. At a time when I needed support and someone to fight for me I spent time, money and my energy fighting my attorney. I spent $7,500 and got NOTHING for it. I was actually worse off when I left to find a new attorney than when I started with Tom Cossitt. Then I needed to spend more money to get a new attorney up to speed. Tom Cossitt kept pushing for a hearing and did nothing to try to resolve things out of court. My new attorney settled things out of court getting me almost everything I asked for within a couple of months, she fought for me, with me and I felt like someone had my back. I would not recommend Tom Cossitt to anyone, ever.

I experienced the same as one of the other reviews. Mr Cossitt has no courtroom presents. He is nervous and showed no confidence. He was not organized with the facts. He was destroyed in the courtroom by the respondent that represented themselves and had no more than a high school education. When... I had the consultation with Cossitt he was confident that there would be a better out come than what I was facing prior to court. I left the courtroom after he was schooled by the non-attorney worse than I ever thought. After this Mr. Cossitt ABANDON me with court still pending. He cut his loses and left me to finish the case. He would not take my phone calls and charged me over $16,000. He did nothing for me. This shows he has no care for his clients. His staff is constantly after you about payment after he says he will work with you. Mr. Cossitt charges more than most attorneys. He rarely called when he said he would. He was always behind and not prepared. He would ask for information the night before the information was due or before court. He would charge for calls from his staff stating he would call at a certain time and then never call. I am retired from law enforcement and have been in the courtroom many times both for civil and criminal cases. I haven't seen worse. Based on my case I can not and would not recommend Tom Cossitt. Save your money and time, find a competent attorney that cares about you and won't abandon you.

Tom was able to help me and my daughter relocate to our hometown in way less time than I expected--we were able to settle even before mediation took place. His drive was tireless; he worked weekends and weeknights to get my case resolved quickly due to the sensitive nature of the case and my pending ...job offer back home. I appreciate how he maintained a consistent presentation to my ex-husband and his lawyer, and I feel that this unwavering stance is what caused the eventual concession. I also appreciate how Tom was extremely concerned for my and my daughter's well-being, educating me about our rights and how we can expect to be protected under the law. Tom was able to help create a tremendous improvement in the quality of my and my daughter's life for years to come with this move, and I would 100% recommend him to anyone for his knowledge, follow through, and unwavering support.

When the case was ruled upon, the Court adopted Tom's arguments verbatim, ruled in my favor, and dismissed the case. I firmly believe that no one could have provided the level of service or expertise than that provided by Tom Cossitt. For anyone who may be considering an attorney to represent them and their interests, I highly recommend Tom Cossitt.

I met with as many as 10 different attorneys before coming across Thomas. After our initial consultation, I was very pleased with his knowledge and realistic expectations. During the really tough time, Thomas kept me calm and helped tremendously to get custody of my daughter. He kept me informed on w...hat was going on and would ask for my input; if it was something that was unrealistic or could be done a different way, Thomas would tell me right away. During the hearings, he was amazing. He kept a professional attitude and was great at cross examinations. He took in all of the facts and evidence, and was able to present them efficiently and effectively. Ultimately helping me gain custody of my child.
