Steer clear

This woman makes a good first impression and that's about it. Don't be tricked. I met with her February 28 regarding a divorce in which my now-ex and I had agreed on everything and just needed the paperwork pushed through. She said that's easy, even had me deposit $1500 less than her standard retaine...r and said if I get all my paperwork to her on time, things should be resolved by May/June. I submitted EVERYTHING under the sun, grouped with individual cover sheets by category, both faxed and dropped off in person. Long story short, come July I am freaking out because I haven't heard A THING....eventually I get told my settlement letter is being finalized, wait another month...nothing. Had quite a phone call with her mid August where she literally yelled at me and told me I'm a child that doesn't understand how hard it is being a lawyer. Apparently I lucked out at the end of August because the house we were selling went under contract so Sue finally decided to move. But not without frantically calling me at 10:30pm 36 hours before our court date for the divorce when she realized she essentially never wrote the settlement letter which I was charged $325 for in July and was supposedly mailed at the beginning of August. She claimed "gremlins got in the computer" and screwed up the formatting yet she was asking questions about credit cards, etc all of which was submitted at the beginning of April. I was up past midnight emailing her information so she could just copy and paste it yet there were still mistakes! My retainer? DRAINED. Plus I got billed another $2000.... I got charged $12 for every email I sent asking why Sue didn't call me back. I also got charged $487 to get yelled at by someone I hired that wasn't doing their job. $325 to change one line on the settlement to say that payouts will be made by the title company. I'm missing 2 billing statements which account for over $800 in unknown charges. $4154 for a divorce where both parties were in agreement. AMAZING. This woman is unprofessional and rude. She acts like she's your friend and the. drags out the situation for her benefit. It is literally embarrassing to have her represent you in court - she looks like a mess....what kind of a lawyer wears a sundress to court? I am reporting Sue for my experience with her as my lawyer, and that may mean getting another lawyer to fight some of these charges. Save yourself the trouble!!!

No hard feelings, I would advise to stay away.

Hired Ms. Kamman. I spent over 4k and got hardly anything accomplished in a very non-contentious divorce. Ended up having to switch attorney's because I could not get her office to respond to email or voicemail. They also misled me regarding discovery, which caused a major rift in the whole divorc...e. Just a horrible experience overall that ended up costing me EXTRA money. Inefficient, can't handle email, and misleading. She may be quite intelligent and good but I could not overcome the fact that I couldn't get ahold of them and they completely misled me. Overall a complete waste of $4k and ended up costing me EXTRA money. I have no motives other than to advise others to not waste their money. I'm sure some cleaver excuse will follow...

Bill, we certainly respect your right to your opinion. Unfortunately, attorney-client privilege does not permit us to respond in detail to your comments. We do not mislead people, and it is unfortunate that you have stated that publicly. We suggest that clients call during business hours in order to receive the fastest service and to schedule an appointment to speak with an attorney if someone is in court. In Lake County, Illinois, if your case is not settled within a few months, the judge sets a trial date and discovery cutoffs, whether you like it or not. Court orders must be followed, absent agreement of both sides. We really try not to play with cleavers; they can be dangerous. Thanks for your comment.

Found a friend when looking for an attorney

Susan Kamman and her associates are fantastic. I went to her in October of 2013 looking for legal advise and direction. I had been fighting cancer for a little over a year when my husband filed for divorce. I was devastated. After interviewing her and discussing my situation, I left with my lawye...r hired, a direction in the fog that I had been living in and a new found friend. Sue Kamman is great. She and her staff are helpful and professional. Throughout the entire process I was kept informed with where my case stood, what was needed from me to proceed and what we were waiting on from the opposing attorney. Sue is direct and to the point. There is never a misunderstanding of what is happening - going to happen - or the direction she is moving in. Unlike others who talk in circles and when you hang up you still don't have a clear answer to your questions. This is never the case with Sue, and she guides her staff to be equally as aware of their conversations. Sue also assisted me with my teen-aged daughter. She helped her understand what is going on - that the divorce is not her fault - and helped her to find direction in what is a very confusing time for kids even without dealing with divorce. Now that the divorce is final I can say it was a pleasure working with Sue. She is more than a lawyer - she is a compassionate individual who works hard for her clients and helps keep them grounded throughout the entire ugly process of divorce. I don't know how my daughter and I would have weathered this storm in our lives without her guidance, support and yes, love. Thank you Susan Kamman

So thankful to have found Sue!

I had been trying to get my ex to pay child support for over 4 years with no luck! I was referred to Sue by a friend and she walked me through every step and got my Ex to pay and it comes straight out of his check! I thought I was fighting a losing battle! I was very impressed with every aspect of Su...e and her staff! I would absolutely refer her to anyone in need of an attorney, in fact I already have a few times!!!
