Former Client

Completely disappeared after she got my retainer! Our last conversation she told me she was going to respond to my ex’s attorney the moment she hung up the phone, and she never did. Since then, she has not returned a single call, or email, no matter how much I try. This is an extremely difficult t...ime in my (or anyone’s) life and by abandoning me after she got her retainer, she’s made it exponentially harder. Do your research, and understand that lawyers are exactly who you think they are. Especially this one. After over 4 months of no contact from her, I was able to finish out my divorce without the help of Sue Kamman. I had to go around her back in order to get things done because she would not act. She blamed server/email issues for her reason not for contacting me, for over 4 months. Not once did she return one of my many phone calls. Having given up on any help from Sue, I requested she withdraw from my case, so that I could represent myself and finish my divorce. She made zero efforts to do this, and when the court date came, the judge was waiting for her to show up to the zoom call for over a half hour. After my ex’s attorney pressured her, Sue joined the call, just to withdraw as my attorney. She still has over half of my retainer, and has done the bare minimum of work, and effort. If you ask me my opinion, Sue Kamman is a criminal, and a fraud. I’ve requested my retainer back from her multiple times, and I’ve again received no response. This practice shows absolutely no professionalism, or human decency. I am disgusted by her behavior and I hope that the ARDC investigates these claims, as no lawyer should be allowed to do this to anyone. Sue Kamman should be disbarred.

Highly recommended....

I hired Susan to handle my not so pleasant divorce. From the very start Susan was as knowledgeable as they come. I was quite nervous as this was my first dealings with divorce and Susan had all the answers I needed to calm my nerves. The opposing attorney tried to play games during the process... and Susan stopped her in her tracks! Susan is EXTREMELY knowledgeable about the complicated divorce laws in IL. Susan explained every step of the process and made sure I knew exactly what was going to happen and why it was going to happen. There were no surprises in the billing, as it was clearly stated upon the initial visits what I would be charge and why. Susan's court demeanor is excellent, there were times during my divorce that needed Susan to be stern and forceful which she did, and got the outcome we needed. Susan was always professional and polite with me, there were times when she was tough, but she had to be as things needed to get accomplished and I was dragging my feet... There were times when she was in court all day during trials, and still made the time to call me and make sure things got accomplished. Overall I'm very happy that I went to Susan. My ex wanted ALOT more than I wound up giving her, AND I get to see my kids on a weekly basis that originally wasn't going to happen.

No hard feelings, I would advise to stay away.

Hired Ms. Kamman. I spent over 4k and got hardly anything accomplished in a very non-contentious divorce. Ended up having to switch attorney's because I could not get her office to respond to email or voicemail. They also misled me regarding discovery, which caused a major rift in the whole divorc...e. Just a horrible experience overall that ended up costing me EXTRA money. Inefficient, can't handle email, and misleading. She may be quite intelligent and good but I could not overcome the fact that I couldn't get ahold of them and they completely misled me. Overall a complete waste of $4k and ended up costing me EXTRA money. I have no motives other than to advise others to not waste their money. I'm sure some cleaver excuse will follow...

Bill, we certainly respect your right to your opinion. Unfortunately, attorney-client privilege does not permit us to respond in detail to your comments. We do not mislead people, and it is unfortunate that you have stated that publicly. We suggest that clients call during business hours in order to receive the fastest service and to schedule an appointment to speak with an attorney if someone is in court. In Lake County, Illinois, if your case is not settled within a few months, the judge sets a trial date and discovery cutoffs, whether you like it or not. Court orders must be followed, absent agreement of both sides. We really try not to play with cleavers; they can be dangerous. Thanks for your comment.

Found a friend when looking for an attorney

Susan Kamman and her associates are fantastic. I went to her in October of 2013 looking for legal advise and direction. I had been fighting cancer for a little over a year when my husband filed for divorce. I was devastated. After interviewing her and discussing my situation, I left with my lawye...r hired, a direction in the fog that I had been living in and a new found friend. Sue Kamman is great. She and her staff are helpful and professional. Throughout the entire process I was kept informed with where my case stood, what was needed from me to proceed and what we were waiting on from the opposing attorney. Sue is direct and to the point. There is never a misunderstanding of what is happening - going to happen - or the direction she is moving in. Unlike others who talk in circles and when you hang up you still don't have a clear answer to your questions. This is never the case with Sue, and she guides her staff to be equally as aware of their conversations. Sue also assisted me with my teen-aged daughter. She helped her understand what is going on - that the divorce is not her fault - and helped her to find direction in what is a very confusing time for kids even without dealing with divorce. Now that the divorce is final I can say it was a pleasure working with Sue. She is more than a lawyer - she is a compassionate individual who works hard for her clients and helps keep them grounded throughout the entire ugly process of divorce. I don't know how my daughter and I would have weathered this storm in our lives without her guidance, support and yes, love. Thank you Susan Kamman

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
