My consultation was very stressful with Kalita , she just pass under review my business, the birth certificate and all papers that I had like all was fake . She given me very negative comments and interviewed me more like she is was a immigration officer more than an lawyer . I paid 250$ for to liste...n someone a front of me who was telling me that because I don’t live with my husband so my petition will be denied , she doesn’t seems to find any another solution for me she just talked to me about denials and how I could opened a business in USA being foreigner without greencard . This consultation was so stressful and a big waste of time where I had to justify myself more than to get advice from a lawyer that I paid 250$ after all negative comments and after she wanted to no more about my online shop !! I just couldn’t talk more to this woman as it looks like she already made her judgement and accused me of mariage fraude just because my husband live more at my place than me at his place and we waiting to get a new place which was difficult for me to justify and to explain . 250$ in the trash .

I’m writing this review as I was granted my asylum yesterday, and I’m sharing my experience with Ms. Shelley Kalita here because this is the least I can do (P.S if you don’t want to read my full experience, the summary is “SHE IS AMAZING AND AN EXCELLENT LAWYER). I filed my case back in 2014 with an ...attorney in NJ. In 2018 I had to move to Chicago, and as I was settling, I had my asylum interview scheduled (I moved my case to Chicago office about a year before that when I moved to St. Louis). I was desperate to find an attorney on such a short notice, as I haven’t updated my case since I filed and my previous attorney in NJ wasn’t being helpful at all. I literally found out about her via Google as I don’t know anyone in Chicago at the time. I emailed her and we met after two days and we went over my case. She informed me that I need to update a lot of things and pretty much was like filing from the beginning (I only had my personal story at the time with few other statements). It was during the New Year holidays, and I really didn’t expect her to do much. She went above and beyond in helping me build a much stronger case in one week! I gathered a lot of papers and she also helped in the country research and then put a whole file together with her statement and everything dated and easy to follow and find (it was seriously impressive work for one week). At the time of my interview, she went with me to the office and we did some preparations couple days before that. The interview was kind of intense, so I followed up with her and she was very honest (no fake promises, which I highly appreciated). I only followed up with her one time after that and she got back to me after a day or two I think. After 8 months from my interview, I was out shopping and she called me to tell me that I was granted asylum...I really didn’t have words to thank her enough. She’s an excellent lawyer with a big heart.

We contacted Shelley with what other lawyers had deemed a "very difficult case" and were asking so much money for. We had an initial 30 minute phone consultation which ended up being about 45 minutes and a face to face 1 hour consultation that ended up being close to 2 hours. We didn't feel pressured... at all to make a decision but with the information that she gave us, we were confident that she was the best. Her price was very reasonable and she was very lenient with payment terms which we appreciated a lot since I was 9 months pregnant with no income. It took 6 weeks from when she filed our "very difficult case" to having green card in hand. My husband and I are very grateful that Shelley took what would have been a very frustrating process and made it very easy. Our only regret is having wasted time calling other lawyers.
