Mark Phillips was my lawyer for a year. I wanted to recover damages from the defendants, who destroyed my property. I wanted a jury trial. I paid Mr. Phillips $5000 to file a motion for a jury trial. He said that he would file a motion for one within the week but never did. Shortly before the court date, Mr. Phillips suddenly didn't want to have anything more to do with him, leaving me at a disadvantage. When I complained to Mr. Phillips, he said, "If you don't like it, get another lawyer." At the pre-trial settlement conference he pressured me to accept a worthless settlement by lying to me about the facts in the case. He told me that the defense was willing to drop a counterclaim against me for $45,000 if I accepted their terms. The counterclaim, according to Mr.Phillips' letter, was filed against the wrong party. I was not at fault but did not know this. I was at a disadvantage because I wasn't as familiar with the details of the case as my partner.
