I hired Kristen S. Henninger to help me secure grandparent visitation rights in New Jersey, but unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. The initial consultation, which was supposed to last an hour, ended after just 20 minutes, leaving me feeling like my concerns were not given th...e attention they deserved. When I received a draft of the complaint, it had a major error and typos. When I pointed out this mistake, along with several typos, Ms. Henninger charged me for making changes, claiming that I had requested significant alterations—which was simply not the case. It was extremely frustrating to have to correct basic details and she still be billed me for errors that should have been her responsibility to get right from the start. When the defendant responded to the draft. Ms. Henninger claimed she never received a copy of it, causing a brief delay in the court proceedings and no very little time to review it because she had another case to attend. The response was filled with untruths that portrayed me as unfit, and while the defendant made these false claims—claims that could have easily been disproven—Ms. Henninger failed to step in and correct the record. Her lack of action allowed the lies to stand without challenge, which left me feeling not represented. The judge directly asked me about one of the false claims, and I responded very clearly with 'No.' despite this, Ms. Henninger continues to accuse me of withholding information and insinuates perjury on my part. While New Jersey does not have formal grandparent visitation laws, the judge ultimately awarded me the third Saturday of every month for four hours. While Ms. Henninger considers this a win, I cannot help but wonder if the outcome could have been better had she advocated more strongly on my behalf. I’m left feeling that my case wasn’t fully represented, and I’m unsure whether I would have been awarded more time if she had truly defended my position. After the court proceedings ended, I was notified that the defendant had refused to cooperate with transportation arrangements, and Ms. Henninger was going back to court to resolve this. She notified me of the new court date the night before, giving me no time to prepare to take off from work and attend. She assured me that I did not need to be present because she would be there to represent me. The new schedule resulted in me receiving my grandchildren for one random weekday visit per month. DCP&P picks them up and brings them to my home, but despite being awarded 4 hours of visitation every third Saturday, I am only able to spend 3 hours with them, as they need to return home to get ready for school the following morning. Even worse, Ms. Henninger has sent me an additional bill of $880.00, furthering my frustration with her handling of this case. When I questioned her about the additional bill, she tried to intimidate me by stating that she could charge me more. I do not understand a court system that allows the defendant to blatantly disregard a judge’s order, yet Ms. Henninger is willing to accept this and charge me for her continued lack of effective representation.
