Lisa A. Whalen was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and in 1995 she graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law, in Miami, Florida, with a Juris Doctorate.
Lisa was in private practice from 2001 until 2007. In January 2008, she was appointed as a Commissioner/Judge Pro Tem by the Presiding Judge of Yuma County Superior Court. During her time on the bench she served as a trial judge. Her case assignments included domestic relations, felony criminal, drug court and mental health court.
Her greatest achievement at the Court was her dedication to the creation of the Yuma County Mental Health Court. This was the first Regional Mental Health Court in the State of Arizona.
In 2015, Yuma County Mental Health received the prestigious Arizona Supreme Court’s Justice Achievement Award for Access to Justice. That same year, Lisa was nominated for citizen of the year for her dedication and work with the mental health court.
Lisa retired from her judicial position in May of 2016. She returned to private practice and relocated to Phoenix. Her practice is the area of family law and ancillary related matters such as misdemeanor criminal cases and protective orders.
