Dreadful Experience

Absolutely dreadful experience with my divorce. I was referred to her by a family member and had high expectations. There was rarely any communication. I set my expectations upfront and never did I see or hear anything communicated about my requests or what I wanted out of the divorce. My divorce was... not complicated but there were a few things related to my kids and their home that I made clear I wanted to work out. Never did Kristina try to mediate anything. I did all the work with mediation and working out my own divorce. There were documents that the other counsel requested that the judge ended up asking me for because she never forwarded them. Kristina was hell bent on taking everything to trial to get more money out of me instead of working with the other counsel. It was a dreadful experience and I cut tires before it got worse. I ended up representing myself and getting nearly everything I asked for by negotiating and compromising. She did none of that and wasn't willing to help it seemed. She didn't answer my questions without basically asking for more money. I ended up working with my ex-wifes attorney to complete everything. She was Fantastic and reasonable. She truly cared about the family goals and not dragging this out for no reason. If I could go back and do it all over again I would of saw the signs of a money hungry, inconsiderate lawyer in the beginning. Good riddance, I'm glad that chapter is closed and I'm glad I took the reins and came out with a favorable outcome for both myself and the family.

Not her best case apparently

Everyone else seems to think she did well for them. It makes me feel like I was working with someone else. Multiple times, she did not have the required paperwork. The judge / clerk provided it to her so we could continue on without delaying the divorce for even more months. It dragged out. Sh...e seemed confused for the hearing that mattered. She used tactics that were misleading to stack her case, even bringing the other parent's ability to be a parent into question, which was never an issue that should have been discussed. She filed an emergency order that caused way more harm than it could have ever done good. She was unable to recover any of her attorney fees. I feel like I'm being hard on her, but if your divorce involves kids, she is not the right person. I think people should know that.

Go Elsewhere for Family Law

I hired Mrs. Sitton/Matthews to help me with my divorce. I have 3 small children so I can only attest to how she handled my family law case. I had given Mrs. Matthews plenty of evidence to use to prove that my ex-husband was in fact working when he said otherwise while he represented himself at court.... 90% of that was not used and there were no objections to some pretty outrageous claims made by my ex-husband including he could not work because he was disabled. He was never asked to prove that in any way. My ex was allowed to say very damaging, untrue things about me that were also never objected to. I was told to not respond. I was not awarded back child support, which was never even brought up by my attorney at court but was in my final paperwork. My ex had not paid me anything in 2 years prior to our court date for our 3 children. No attorney’s fees were awarded either. My ex moved 2 hours away from me and told me the day he moved with no prior notice. We did an emergency court order. He was not held accountable for doing this in any way. Our children are only able to see him 3 weekends per month now because of this. In my final court paperwork, it said that now I have to pay 60% of his travel fees to deliver my children. This was never brought up on our court date but was in my final court ruling paperwork. The icing on the cake was when Kristina asked me to leave her a review via text, sent me the link to do so and said, “Would appreciate it very much. Just got a completely bogus review from a crazy client and trying to bury it if possible… I decided to refund your fees as a courtesy. Hope you don’t mind.” I’m not sure why that was requested given the outcome of my case but no check was ever sent either. Unfortunately, the other bad review on here sounded very similar to my situation. I wish I had seen it earlier but at least I can leave my review and hopefully save some other family the trouble. In the end I was awarded a minimal amount for 3 children under 10 that doesn’t even cover the monthly childcare costs for my youngest child who is going to preschool part time. I would suggest you go elsewhere for a family law attorney that will fight for your case.

Best family law ever!

I hired Kristina for a complex divorce involving many assets. I just *knew* I was going to get taken to the cleaners....but I didn’t! She never guaranteed me anything but got me everything I could have wanted! I would recommend Ms. Matthews to anyone.

Amazing family court lawyer !

I was recommended Kristina by a close friend. My husband was divorced in 2012 and pretty much got screwed over by his ex wife. He was only seeing his daughter every other weekend, had no major holidays or even her birthday to spend with her, and was paying over $400 a month to support his child. He o...f course would barely see his daughter if he also didn’t pay for his ex wife’s gas to bring her or meet halfway when she lived 5 minutes away. I was tired of her using my husband and his daughter being withheld from him. My husband of course won in court thanks to Kristina! He got his child support lowered $300 , seee his daughter every other weekend gets her from school on Friday and drops her off Monday morning at school or keeps her until Tuesday if there’s a holiday weekend, now gets major holidays with his daughter on even/odd years, and week on week off in the summer! Kristina played NO games in the court room and fought for a dad to have the right to see his daughter. Kristina is also very thorough and to the point of things and will lay out your options in the most realistic matter of fact way. She will tell you the truth if you should fight or settle, but if you want her to fight she will do it. She always out weighed the pros and cons with my husband which was nice. I recommend Kristina to all of my family and friends in Arizona who need a criminal or family court matter in the courts. She is always quick to respond and well she is a sweetheart... at least to me!

She is a talented attorney who navigates complex criminal and family law cases passionately and effectively. Many attorneys with brilliant legal minds struggle with efficiency and efficacy. Not Kristina. She is a wicked smart straight shooter who gets the job done - and well. Clients are notoriously pleased with her work and find her relatable, honest and compassionate."

"When I get phone calls asking for a referral to a family law lawyer I recommend Kristina Matthews. I've known her for over a decade and know her to be an accomplished litigator and strong advocate for her clients. The ultimate compliment I can pay her is she is one of the very few people that I would NOT want to go up against in court. I've sent several clients to her and they have all thanked me. That says a lot."
