I was recently applying to adjust my immigration status after getting married to an American citizen. I had to file forms to the USCIS including "I-485, Application to register permanent residence or adjust status. It was a lot of paperwork, and although I have a PhD, the forms were often ambiguous..., and the USCIS web site was not always clear, therefore we decided to get legal advice.
