Javed M. Abbas

I was paired with Javed Abbas by the client manager for Harris Family Law Firm. I really did not know what to expect or why this particular pairing was put in place. I could not have been more blessed and satisfied with this pairing. My first meeting was an open dialogue where Javed really listened t...o what I wanted to accomplish and what I needed to accomplish. He heard both my heart and my concerns or fears. He gave me an honest appraisal of where he felt my case was strong and where it was weak. He suggested that I continue to negotiate a maintenance modification with my ex-wife and to keep the dialogue open. While I was not able to do this, I took his advice to heart and worked with her daughter, which is how the final agreement was reached. When I told Javed what I thought was a reasonable agreement he gently told me he would put it forward to her attorney, but I should not be surprised if it were rejected as being too low. He then laid out a three prong approach to resolve the issue. He explained each approach and how he perceived the judge would review each approach. As we came closer to settlement, he gently questioned me on several choices, and when I asked him to explain, he clearly showed me where each idea I had could be helpful and detrimental to me in the future. Even in the last hour of settlement he laid out the wisdom of having a contract that was non-negotiable, which I certainly would not have thought of along with an ending of the maintenance should my ex-wife remarry. I would not have thought of that either. Javed treated me as a person not just a client. In addition he was respectful of my ex-wife and her position though he did not agree with her position. I was also very appreciative of the open communication--and I mean communication, not just setting the clock in motion. I also appreciated his explanation of the role that Beth Wilkins, a certified paralegal would play on our "team." I heard from her each time a step was taken or paperwork filed. I was never, ever left in the dark or left wondering where we were in the process. The last piece I will add was equally important to me. I had the feeling I was hiring the entire firm in that Javed and Beth had others with whom they could consult. This brought me even more confidence in the approach that Javed laid out for me to follow. I have been extremely relieved emotionally to have had the help I did from Javed and Beth to bring this to full resolution and conclusion. I would recommend Javed without reservation.

Javed helped us through some difficult issues this past few months and we couldn't have been happier with the results. Specifically , we were dealing with a difficult custody issue that was becoming very urgent and needed to be dealt with swiftly. Javed aided us by contacting the other party, explain...ing our point of view, laying out all the available outcomes (to us and the other party), and creating a negotiating environment rather than what would have typically been a very hostile environment. His level of professionalism with us and the other party really helped us to reach an agreement (out of court) that ultimately created a better environment for the child involved. Javed was great at keeping us up to date with every step of our process and he was also great at letting us know when what we wanted was unreasonable and out of reach. If he didn't know the answer, he found it for us quickly and explained it in 'plain English' so we knew the answer. We came out on the winning end of our case and everyday since has been better for us and our family. We would highly recommend his services to anyone who needs a family case handled in a professional and timely manner.
