James “Bart” Countess comes to the practice of law as a second career after serving for more than twenty years as a federal air traffic controller. During his tenure with the Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Countess has received numerous awards and commendations for outstanding performance during emergency situations that threatened the lives and property of aircraft owners, pilots, and passengers. This experience lends itself to Mr. Countess’ ability to help clients in and out of the courtroom through his calm but focused demeanor which allows level-headedness in all situations. He brings to the courtroom a quick-thinking and decisive manner that clients find reassuring. Mr. Countess is a strong voice against injustice who passionately defends his clients’ rights.
Mr. Countess refined his ability to relate to people during more than fourteen years as a labor leader with the National Air Traffic Controllers Association at the local, regional, and national levels of that organization. He has worked with hundreds of employees who faced workplace problems in all stages of litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
Prior to his tenure with the Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Countess proudly served in the United States Air Force. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama and received his Juris Doctor from the Florida State University College of Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Jefferson County Bar Association, the Lawyer-Pilot Bar Association, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives.
