George Warren Cox

I am a corporate and business lawyer as well as a registered U.S. patent attorney.  I am the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for a company focused on the research, development, and commercialization of consumer healthcare products and prescription-based pharmaceuticals.  Previously, I founded IP & Business Law Counseling, LLC to provide virtual general counsel services to early- to mid-growth phase companies.  Before then, I was an associate in the corporate and intellectual property practice groups at Miles & Stockbridge PC, and a student associate and technical specialist at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett, & Dunner, LLP, where I was involved in pharmaceutical patent preparation, prosecution, and litigation.  While in law school, I was a student attorney in the Civil Practice Clinic at the Washington College of Law and received the Dean’s Award for Professional Responsibility and Outstanding Student.

Before law school, I had almost twenty years of biomedical research experience in the areas of pharmacology, immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology.  After receiving my PhD in pharmacology, I was trained in immunology and molecular biology at the National Cancer Institute, was promoted to Senior Staff Fellow, and conducted research on macrophage immunobiology and cytokine gene expression and function.  I was also an assistant professor of pharmacology and molecular and cell biology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  I have taught medical and graduate students, and mentored MS, PhD, and MD level professionals in biomedical research.  I was also an Associate Editor and Section Editor for The Journal of Immunology, and have lectured at research conferences, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions.  I have published more than 70 book chapters, abstracts, and peer-reviewed journal articles.
