J. Kim Wright

J.Kim Wright J.D., is a pioneer in the field of law as a healingprofession. A graduate of the University of Florida College of Law,she passed the North Carolina Bar in 1994, her third successful barexam and the only membership that she currently maintains. She wasthe original founder of the Renaissance Lawyer Society, a non-profitorganization of lawyers “supporting legal transformation andinnovation” and wrote their original web site of almost 400 pagesof information in 2000. The “RLS” site showcased ways of practicing lawthat were solution-oriented, collaborative, restorative, peacemakingand healing and promoted the new approaches as a movement and newparadigm of law.

Sincethe late 1990's, she has been speaking, writing, and interacting withlawyers about this new paradigm of law. She is widely recognized asone of the leaders defining and guiding the movement. In her work,she has met thousands of lawyers and has developed meaningfulconnections with key leaders who are influential with thousands ofother lawyers. She has consulted with media - mainstream,professional and alternative.

Afteryears of working in the field, she identified the need for a centralinformation resource and “virtual community center”. She in March, 2009. As thepublisher and managing editor of , she and herbusiness partner, Michael Matthews, have interviewed over 100lawyers, law professors, law students, judges, and alliedprofessionals who are working to create a new paradigm of legalpractice. her commitment to a new model of law with years of study oftransformational technology, social construction, conflictresolution, socially responsible business, human dynamics,neuroscience, and learning theory.

Kimcoaches lawyers on transforming their law practices and develops continuing legal education programs.  She has published manyarticles and chapters in magazines and books. She is involved inseveral think-tanks and support circles and is working on adocumentary series about law. Shealso hasbeen an adjunct professor at three colleges, includingher alma mater, Warren Wilson College, in Asheville where she majoredin Economics/Business Management and International Studies.

InNovember of 2009, the ABA named Kim as one of the 50 “Legal Rebelswho are “finding new ways topractice law, represent their clients, adjudicate cases and train thenext generation of lawyers,”

In2009, the American Bar Association contacted Kim to author a bookdetailing this new paradigm in law.  Lawyersas Peacemakers: Practicing Holistic, Problem-Solving Law wasreleased April 2010 and reached the ABA best seller list frompre-orders alone. It was also named one of the 50 Flagship Books forthe American Bar Association.

Inaddition to her professional accomplishments, Kim raised 16children: two birth children, plus step-children and many other childrenwho needed a home. Kim started law school with seven children athome, ages spanning 2-16 years old.  Her title has sinceexpanded to include “grandmother” and her oldest grandson justbecame a father.

InSpring of 2008, Kim gave up her home and office and began to travelfull-time. Since then she has been in 28 states and considersherself one of the new breed of location independent professionals.  She is available for telephone and internet consultations.
