WARNING: I would NOT hire this attorney. I hired Doug Shaw 5 years ago to do an adoption for my step-daughter. Took almost 8 weeks for the home study lady to show up. After I paid $1000.00, it Then took a year to complete the (FIRST) home study. I met with her and signed and she said she would get t...his out to him. I waited along while not really knowing just how long this was supposed to take. I started calling and leaving Doug messages and HE NEVER RETURNED ANY OF MY CALLS. I finally made an appointment with him at the office just to tell me he never received the home study, he sent her to do the job. So I got back in touch with her, she no longer had a license, the office she worked for had closed up. After fighting over a year she set up with someone to do the home study AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE. Took me a while to get it done but I finally PERSONALLY put the home study in Doug's hand in May. He said he would try to file on the previous $196.00 filing fee I paid him. After a couple weeks I heard nothing from him or the courts I started sending him emails, NO RESPONSE. So I send him a angry email , he responded, no court date yet. So I sent him another angry email in a week and he finally replied I was going to have to pay the filing fee again, so I called his office and paid with my card. 2 weeks, nothing from Doug or the court so I called the clerks office and not filed in court yet. Sent him another angry email, he then told me he sent the paperwork through, but in Porter county it has to be filed electronically and he was on his way back to his office to file. 2 weeks pass and I go to the porter county clerks office, not been filed. I sent Doug several emails asking for my file and a refund, no response. I ended up hiring another attorney and my case was finally filed in court, took her 2 days, after I was jerked by Doug Shaw for 5 years. I paid him $1700.00 and he just flat refused to do the adoption. He has good reviews, now he has a bad one. I feel I need to warn the public about how Doug Shaw did me.

Doug Shaw was a fantastic attorney for me while I went through my divorce. Not only was he professional but he was compassionate and caring throughout the entire process. I was never afraid to ask questions. He was even available for me when I had to refinance my house he was helpful in getting copie...s of my divorce papers. I would recommend him for anyone needing legal advice.
