Elder Law 70%

As an elder law attorney my greatest role is assisting families to finance the cost of long term care while protecting and preserving assets. Every family has unique needs. By opening the avenues to benefits, including Medicaid and Veteran's benefits, and reserving and protecting assets, families can provide the highest possible quality of life to a loved one in need of long term care.

Estate Planning 20%

As an estate planning attorney I listen to individuals and couples to learn and help them determine the best way to accomplish wealth and asset transfers after death. Once decided the documents are drafted and then executed, putting in place a comprehensive estate plan for protection during life and beyond. Wills, living trusts, financial powers of attorney, healthcare powers of attorney, living wills, and much more are all a part of each families plan.

Probate 5%

I assist families through the probate process, including the opening and closings of estates, the establishment of trusts, preparation of court documents and accountings, and ultimately the delivery of assets to the beneficiaries. I am also a resource for those left behind during the difficult time following death, helping them to begin healing and move forward emotionally and financially.

Tax 5%

Taxes are a consideration in both elder law and estate planning. With each client I assist, I must evaluate the tax benefits and consequences for income and/or estate taxes. I utilize my many years of public accounting and IRS experience, as well as stay current with the tax laws, to guide my clients as needed, and to refer to skilled professionals for tax preparation when necessary.

We didn't plan

Sure, mother was getting on in years, but we thought we had plenty of time. And after all, she had a will and we knew her wishes - "split everything equally between her 2 children and if there is a penny left over, throw it away." We didn't consider that one day we might not be able to care for her... at home, but that day came. With nursing home bills exceeding $5,000/month her savings ran out pretty quickly and we had to apply for Medicaid. All she had left was her house - far from fancy but a part of Mother we wanted to keep. A trusted neighbor and friend suggested we call Beverly Eckard, who had helped his family through a similar problem. She carefully listened to our situation, then clearly explained the different options we could pursue. When we made our choice she guided us through the things we needed to do and prepared all of the necessary legal documents. All of this had to be done very quickly, or the application would expire and we would have to start over. She worked with Mother's social worker and kept me informed throughout the process. She was available to me almost any time via email (my preference). I was very impressed and would recommend her to anyone with aging parents. I'm just sorry we didn't retain her services to develop a plan before we were in crisis.

A Wonderful Lawyer

Beverly was recommended to us by an estate lawyer which we used when my mother died. My daddy was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we wanted to make sure we had everything taken care of. Beverly advised us in what we should do. She saved us so much time on things that she worked out for us before my... daddy died in August. She was always there for us, always returning phone calls and/or emails. She is a wonderful lawyer, but more importantly, a wonderful person. Our family was very fortunate in retaining her as my daddy's elercare attorney. My sisters and I love her!
