About Barbara
Biography
I have been representing the interests of persons accused of criminal conduct in Gainesville and surrounding counties for over 30 years. I was a member of DeThomasis and Buchanan P.A.; for 18 years. I returned to the Public Defender's Office to continue doing what I love.
I value the privacy interests of of my clients and the importance of their reputations. I counsel and assist all clients to reduce the publicly available information regarding their legal matters, either by expunging or sealing eligible records or by avoiding publicity.
Before joining DeThomasis & Buchanan, P.A. in 2001, I was an Assistant Public Defender handling everything from misdemeanor traffic to first degree murder trials in the 8th Judicial Circuit for over sixteen years. I was a member of the defense team for Danny Harold Rolling from 1992 through his trial in February of 1994.
I seek out educational opportunites at criminal law seminars and I mentor fellow bar members as an Emeritus member of the Adkins Inn of the American Inn of Court. In addition, I assist in the educational enhancement of current law students at the University of Florida School of Law through trial workshops, trial competitions, and other volunteer opportunities.
My goal is the vigilante protection of my clients' legal rights and to keep them from those who would prey on them at their most vunerable. .

My client's drug case was successfully expunged.
State v. Howard, 983 S.2d 671 (Fla.1DCA 2008)
The Florida Supreme Court remanded the case and the 1st DCA sent it back to the trial court to vacate my client's drug conviction based on my motion to suppress.
Armatage v. State, 954 So.2d 669 (Fla. 1st DCA 2007)
Client's drug conviction was reversed because of my trial court level Motion to Suppress.
