Felt cheated

I was recently laid off and in a vulnerable situation. I strongly felt that this practice took advantage of it and I got jipped. A reasonable attorney would charge contingency based only on the amount by which they help to increase severance payment. However, unfortunately that was not the case. ...This practice based the contingency on what I was already being given as severance. The attorney sounded very confident that she had enough to build a case and negotiate for more $. I felt pressured and agreed, since I was told that if I do not decide right away then I will have to pay for yet another session. Right after signing the tone changed where there is no guarantee to get the increase. Also when I share the feedback, I was told that I am being rude. STOP, do not contract with an attorney who is taking a substantial chunk of your severance even if they are unsuccessful in negotiating for more. Considering the way the contract was framed, I would have hoped to get someone who pursued and was aggressive enough to get a positive outcome.

Good morning, John! Thank you for the feedback. I am sorry you feel this way - I was absolutely clear with you from the start about having NO expectations on getting more $, which you gladly agreed with and accepted. Further, I got you your severance back that you have already lost as it expired, as well as to have your employer work with us on tax breaks, so that you can receive more money. Truly wish you the best in your endeavors going forward, as I truly care for you as a Client! Thanks, Anna

Work Retaliation

I went with Anna because she made me feel as though she really cared. Anna’s assistant drafted u my complaint getting information wrong in the end all she did was say they promised o give me a higher position but it I wanted to move forward I had to pay her (Why would I want to pay you when you could...n’t get results working without pay). Anna informed me that f anything happened afterwards to lease call her back. Well to my surprise I dd, but I had t pay her a fee just for her to hear that. As laid off without warning after she told me my job would promote me! To make matters worse she had the nerve to send me an email to promote her Life coach business!! What a joke! Don’t waste your time with this lawyer if you’re a minority and wasn’t born with money!!!!

Divorce Case

I hired this firm to resolve a contested divorce. My ex-husband and I have no property or children together. We have a lot of debt however. I was paying the debt by myself, which was significantly impacting my credit at the time I retained this firm as legal council. Anna and her team were made a...ware of my extremely difficult financial situation. As I was also underemployed at the time, my parents, who are retired and on a fixed income, were assisting me in paying legal fees. All I was looking for was that my ex-husband pay approximately $500/month towards bills and other debt we had incurred when married. Anna filed for 1/2 of all debt, which I know my husband cannot pay. This, in my opinion, prolongs the divorce process. Also, it prompted my husband to retain council instead of mitigating and quickly resolving the issue so as to separate legally. When all was said and done, I was charged over $300 for failing to respond to 2 emails (the charges were for drafting a certified letter and costs for mailing it to me). I asked for this to be reimbursed, and was only given 1/2 of the cost back. Overall, I found this firm to be overtly expensive, and interested in carrying on a case that should have been simple and short. By the time I terminated our relationship, I had incurred over $8000 worth of lawyer's fees, and the firm had yet to file my divorce paperwork. The severely inflated costs are unreasonable, seeing as I went there to get a measly $500 per month assistance from my ex to pay bills incurred, and now I'm looking at bankruptcy, and absolutely no resolution, as of yet, to my divorce. I wish lawyers could work in looking out for the best interest of both parties so that we could come to a fair agreement. I was not and still am not looking to "screw over" anyone. However, my legal council went for the jugular. If your idea for representation is cut-throat and cost is no issue, then Shapiro Law firm is for you. If you are looking for a quiet closure to a marriage with no ill will towards the other party, look elsewhere. This firm will not provide you with the service you need. I cannot whole heartedly recommend this firm.

Slapdash and Expensive

In my professional career, I regularly deal with lawyers for commercial, contract and patent law and so I have experience and realistic expectations of professional service providers. I can state categorically that from my experience, I found Anna Shapiro's work to be slapdash, uncaring and expensive.... By way of just a few examples; In a critical court document, I was written up as both Plaintiff and Defendant; Support calculations were incorrect and I was charged for the time to point that out and correct them; I was over-charged hundreds of dollars for simple admin work such as confirming a phone call was scheduled; a temporary judgement was made against me in my absence because Shapiro claimed she did not know we had been summoned to appear in court. At one stage, I was so dissatisfied with Shapiro’s work and heavy-handed billing that I demanded she reversed some charges which said she would only agree to if she dropped me as a client, knowing full well that I could not then replace her in time for my imminent litigation. After wasted months and many thousands of dollars, I decided to terminate my relationship with Shapiro Law and have another firm represent me for my Complaint for Modification. Even then, in my opinion, Shapiro act unprofessionally by being very obstructive. Her firm dragged their feet for weeks before handing over my files to my new lawyers and, despite instructions to the contrary, She cancelled my pending Complaint for Modification. I was already extremely stressed, and this last matter caused me even greater stress and hardship as I was by then homeless and delays in my hearing meant that I continued to be obligated to pay my ex-wife over 100% of my income in support costs, risking that I would also soon be bankrupt. I was also dealing with my father’s declining health in London, and flew back to Boston for the Modification hearing only to discover that it had been cancelled by someone at Shapiro’s firm. In the end I won my Modification case, but not via Shapiro Law. As far as I was concerned, there was no evidence that Anna Shapiro’s firm was professional or even remotely sympathetic throughout the entire process. I would never recommend this firm.
