Amos L. Barton comes to The Carlson Law Firm as Of Counsel after years devoting his practice to the representation of crime victims in civil suits against their perpetrators. Amos leads the firm’s newest location in Kerrville, Texas to assist injured victims of car accidents, trucking crashes, motorcycle accidents, slip and falls and other personal injuries.
He is an experienced Civil Trial Lawyer with proven results working on behalf of victims and their families. Amos believes injury victims deserve compensation for the harm they have endured at the hands of negligent parties. As a former Elected District Attorney for the State of Texas, Mr. Barton is aware of the shortcomings of the criminal justice system and fights for his clients maximizing the benefits of the civil justice system.
A fifth-generation Texan, Amos grew up in a West Texas town as the oldest of five children in a farming and ranching family. At age seven Amos chopped cotton, at ten years old he was driving himself and the chopping crew to the fields, and by the sixth grade, he owned 73 sows that he raised-selling show pigs with his brother. At age sixteen, he drove trucks for the family wool warehouse and delivered medication to homebound elderly for the local drugstore. Amos is handy having done almost every type of manual labor from bailing and hauling hay, working cattle, building fence, roofing, framing, concrete work, rock work, welding, building demolition, auto restoration, sand-fighting, dozer work, commercial lawn care, pest management, and even hand-picked an acre of cotton as a student researcher for Texas A&M University.
This upbringing gave Amos a strong motivation to seek higher education and upon graduation from Angelo State University, he went on to law school at Texas Tech University. After meeting the love of his life, Courtney, and upon graduation, the couple moved to Kerrville in 2001 to launch a law practice and start a family. Amos has represented children and corporations and sued common criminals and billion-dollar publicly traded entities.
When he served as District Attorney, Amos led the charge prosecuting violent felons, complex organized crime, child molesters, online predators, cold-cases and murderers—setting verdict records in multiple counties. He served in the 198th District Attorney’s Office for nine years and at age 32 was elected as one of the youngest in the State to serve the six-county district as the District Attorney.
Notable civil and criminal results include the following:
$5,160,000 for a family in a drunk-driving death case
$9,622, for a child victim of sexual assault
80 consecutive life sentences in the prosecution of a child molester
297 years in prison in the prosecution a child molester
Amos balances his life between his trial practice and his wife and their three teenagers. He enjoys cooking and traveling with his wife and frustrating his kids by trying to involve them in things that he is interested in. He is a committed believer, a bank director, an outdoor sportsman, a wood-fired cook, an artist, Multi-Engine Instrument-Rated Pilot, and Ironman Triathlete.

Amos took our case against a well known and influential insurance agency. The process was slow and somewhat emotional, but Amos’ consistent push toward the goal was reassuring. He didn’t sugar coat the facts, but was always optimistic and that rubbed off on to my family, and kept us in the fight. Aft...

Amos aggressively and relentlessly pursued justice in the case I was involved in. I was lucky, as was the community of Kerrville, to see the determination and courage he exhibited on behalf of the good of others.
