Alexander Jsw Johnson

I am a trademark attorney with more than 5 years' experience. My background is in intellectual property practice broadly, but now specialize exclusively in trademark acquisition and prosecution. I file hundreds of applications each month with the USPTO.

I entered into the practice of intellectual property law from a creative background. I studied art and journalism, spent time working with the University of Iowa's Trademark Licensing Porgram, Arena Football League's league office, and prior to all of that was a sports reporter and writer with the Daily Iowan.  I focus on brands; protecting, building, and commercializing efforts. My practice has served mostly small to medium sized businesses with entrepreneurial spirit.

I am not a licensed patent attorney, although I have drafted and negotiated many agreements relating to patents and technologies. I have also assisted in patent and trade secret litigation. My practice is focused on the commercial and acquisition side.

I can talk branding, name and logo development, and general business identity ideas all day. That is why I practice trademark law as my primary area of focus. Startups and early stage businesses are very enjoyable to work with due to the dynamic nature of their development and wide-ranging possibilities that lay before them. I have worked with a number of early stage startup clients and find that branding advice to be very helpful at that stage, even if formal trademark filings and agreements are not yet in focus. It is in this space I really enjoy "talking shop" and am happy to simply build relationships.

Personally, I am an avid hobbyist photographer, cook, and occasionally I reinvigorate my love of basketball, golf, soccer, and other sports, as well as some occasional drawing and painting.
