Unprofessional Intake Process and Concerning Business Practices

Review: Salus Disability LLC - Unprofessional Intake Process and Concerning Business Practices Rating: ⭐ (1/5 stars) Date of Experience: June 2025 Service: SSDI Representation Consultation Summary I contacted Salus Disability for representation at the ALJ hearing level for my SSDI case. Th...e intake process revealed several concerning practices that ultimately led me to seek representation elsewhere. Specific Issues Encountered Inadequate Staff Training My intake consultation was conducted by a trainee (Theresa) who demonstrated lack of experience and proper supervision: Repeatedly confused SSDI vs. SSI despite my clear specification that I was seeking SSDI representation only Failed to explain client rights and options during the consultation Showed uncertainty about basic procedures throughout the call Inappropriate Information Requests Insisted on detailed financial information (checking/savings balances, investment details) for an SSDI case where such information is irrelevant Presented financial disclosure as mandatory when it was actually optional Requested additional financial documentation via email without explaining why it was needed Pressure Tactics and Poor Document Practices Pressured me to sign representation agreements immediately during the phone consultation When I requested time to review documents, was made to feel rushed to make an immediate decision Several forms appeared pre-completed and pre-signed, which raised questions about document authenticity Required signed agreements before they would even evaluate whether to accept the case (unusual practice) Misleading Fee Information Representation agreement showed incorrect fee cap of $7,200 when current statutory maximum is $9,200 Suggests lack of attention to detail in legal documents Unprofessional Follow-up After raising these concerns in writing, the Director of Operations provided responses that directly contradicted what actually occurred during my consultation. When I pointed out these discrepancies with specific details, I received only a dismissive two-sentence response closing the matter. Comparison with Industry Standards For context, I consulted with another disability attorney who: Conducted a professional intake without requesting any financial information Provided adequate time to review all documents Never pressured for immediate signatures Evaluated my case before discussing representation agreements This comparison confirmed that Salus Disability's practices are not consistent with standard industry procedures. Areas of Concern for Potential Clients Quality Control: Inexperienced staff conducting legal consultations without proper supervision Transparency: Misrepresenting client rights and options during intake Business Practices: Unusual requirement to sign agreements before case evaluation Document Integrity: Pre-signed forms and outdated fee information Client Relations: Dismissive response to legitimate concerns Recommendation I would strongly recommend seeking consultation with other disability law firms before choosing Salus Disability. The intake process should be professional, transparent, and focused on understanding your case rather than pressuring you into immediate commitments. Note to Potential Clients Ask about staff experience levels conducting your consultation Verify that financial information requests are necessary for your case type Insist on adequate time to review all documents Confirm current fee caps and statutory maximums Consider getting a second opinion from another firm While every client's experience may differ, the systemic issues I encountered suggest these may not be isolated incidents.

Relationship: Family member

"Maren is one of the best SSDI attorneys in the state, and hands down the best attorney to handle overpayment cases. She works with clients to help them through the complicated social security processes and stands-up for her clients when no one else will. She helps clients feel comfortable and confident about the social security process and she is an expert at handling client crises and short deadlines. If you're looking into SSDI or have an overpayment issue with SSA, don't go anywhere else. Your case should be handled properly the first time and you deserve to understand the SSA process. I highly recommend this attorney."
