Terri D. Sloyer brings a unique child-centered philosophy to the practice of family law in Spokane and its surrounding communities. Traditionally, family law maintains a reputation of being one of the most contentious, litigious, and emotionally exhausting practice areas for attorneys. However, in June 2009, Ms. Sloyer founded her family law practice, The Gaia Law Firm (“Gaia Law”), with one primary mission: “Do no harm” when representing families in transition. The philosophy extends to all areas of Ms. Sloyer’s practice with prominent emphasis on protecting the needs and interests of children involved in the process.
Ms. Sloyer began her legal career at the Center for Justice, a non-profit organization dedicated to representing persons with little to no resources in the areas of civil rights, discrimination, government accountability, poverty, and the environment. It was there that she learned the importance of appreciating and preserving the human component oftentimes taken for granted in the legal process.
“At Gaia Law, we understand that this process is emotionally, spiritually and physically challenging, and we are committed to working holistically with our families in order to begin healing our community one family at a time,” says Ms. Sloyer. “We not only advise and represent your legal needs, we ensure that you are connected with community resources to address your needs during this time.” “We are committed to representing you with diligence and passion,” Ms. Sloyer adds, “especially with regard to seeking a result that is in your children’s best interest.”
It is Ms. Sloyer’s hope that Gaia Law’s philosophy of swift, amicable resolution to family law matters engenders a growing trend in the profession, and that the legal process will ultimately acknowledge that child-centered statutes and regulations cannot be effective if the results are adult-driven.
