The law is an adversarial process by definition, and when it comes to families and personal matters, confrontation does little to truly resolve the situation. I prefer to approach family matters with dispute resolution as a viable alternative to expensive litigation. I also do traditional legal representation and will aggressively pursue resolving the issues using the court system.
While I do traditional litigation using the courts, my practice is focused on Mediation and Collaborative Law where the parties and their attorneys agree to resolve all the issues without court intervention. As a mediator, I serve as a neutral third person to assist parties in privately resolving their issues. Fully trained and practicing the Collaborative Law approach since 2005, I was instrumental in bringing Collaborative Law to Spokane. I was the primary presentor at a two day training on Collaborative Law.
Between graduating from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1980 and opening my law practice in 2002, I obtained my masters in clinical psychology and practiced as a mental health professional serving individuals, couples and families. My return to the law was based on a passion for assisting people to navigate the sometimes vicious legal system in a more reasonable and compassionate manner.
With extensive experience in traditional family law, I am committed to helping families redefine themselves during dissolution in a way that supports the health and wellbeing of all parties, particularly the children.
I offer a unique set of skills for providing compasionate assistance in divorce proceedings. I listen carefully to my clients to determine their goals related to the divorce. Whether the goal is to retain ownership of a house, a fair division of assets or minimizing the impact on children my common sense approach allows my clients to reach solutions tailored to their particular circumstances.
My primary goal as a lawyer, is to ensure that families in distress are not further damaged by the legal process.

"I endorse this lawyer. Karen is an excellent family law attorney who helps her clients navigate both the legal and emotional aspects of their challenging cases. I especially respect her focus on placing the needs of the children in the forefront of each case. In addition to her legal practice, I know Karen to be a skilled mediator of family law issues."
"I endorse this attorney. Karen is both skillful and compassionate, and I particularly appreciate her dedication to resolving cases in a respectful manner, while remaining a diligent advocate. Karen has a unique background and a large breadth of knowledge that also makes her a very gifted mediator."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have worked with Karen in her capacity as a guardian ad litem and have been very impressed with the work she does and how she handles the individual matters. She is a great attorney to work with."
"I have had several cases over the past 6 years with Karen Vache representing the other spouse. I have found her to be caring and professional. She is a strong believer in the strengths of collaborative law for divorcing couples. Additionally, I have had the benefit of working with her on the board of directors of the local non-profit Spokane County Collaborative Professionals association. This has strengthened our working relationship when we each represent one of the spouses in a divorce. She knows how to advocate for her collaborative law clients while reinforcing the team concept for a solution that both parties will know is fair and just of each of them."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. Karen is a very good lawyer and mediator. She is an excellent guardian ad litem. I've seen Karen display incredible smarts and hard work in her role as a teacher of collaborative law and as president of Spokane County Collaborative Professionals. Karen would be a good choice for anyone with legal concerns in family law."
