Jim Irwin is experienced, and effective (unless your @ss is guilty)

I've worked with, as well as had Jim Irwin as my attorney, and he is extremely dedicated and carries a huge caseload, and does it well. He's been a lawyer over 30 years, and done over 450 trials, so he's not afraid to fight. If you have a chance to win or get a better deal he will find it, such as n...egotiating a downward amendment of a MV issue, and taking care of everything so you don't even have to go to court (as in my case) or keep your CDL or what-have-you. HOWEVER he doesn't have time to answer after-hours calls, or your wife's e-mails, etc. if you did something so bad the court won't let you go and you can't post bail-- or you screwed up your conditions of release and got landed back in jail, as the person that wrote that "watch your self" comment probably did (the court does not let you stay 3 weeks in jail without an arraignment, no matter who your attorney is, or it will lead to dismissal). This is a great venue for people to blame their attorney anonymously for their screw ups, so one should consider the source of these so-called ratings.

watch your self if the court appointed you Irwin as your attorney

Save your self time and grief plead for another defender. After I was read my rights and I asked to speak with an attorney, Mr. Irwin allowed me to sit in jail with no contact with my attorney for three weeks. In addition he never responded to my free phone call, multiple emails, phone calls from ...my wife and other family members. Unless the prosecutor makes an error on which he can have your case dismissed I feel your Goose is cooked. My wisest decision was getting another attorney

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
