Outstanding service

I called Mr. Denison to assist with my divorce. His staff was extremely helpful and communicative. The price was reasonable and I couldn't be more happy with the results.

Best $$$

This is the best money I’ve ever spent on anything . My daughters safety was a top priority to Jim an my case was a joke ! I highly recommend Jim even if your ex is a narcissist.

Disappointed

I would agree with the prior reviewer's comment about Mr. Denison being firmly entrenched in the local 'good ol' boy' network. Am sad to report that once hired, he showed zero interest in my divorce case. It was as if, once he realized that mine was no acrimonious divorce case (and that there was l...ittle possibility to earn big money), he lost interest. He was generally unavailable to answer questions. His assistant, Julie, while polite and helpful, seemed to be inadequately informed. Thus, she could only provide limited assistance. Yet, I did notice that the billing statements from his office were extremely prompt. Lastly, Mr. Denison's assertion that anonymous comments must be fabricated is weak and shameful. As anyone in this small town is aware, it would be a poor use of judgement to sign one's name on a forum such as this. Extremely disappointed.

Another "anonymous" comment. I cannot respond to comments such as these because I do not have any idea what client this is or even if it is a client. Since AVVO only posts your first name, I am not sure why it would be a "poor use of judgment to sign one's name to a forum such as this". I am also not sure what "good ol' boy" network there is in Ellensburg. The majority of family law attorneys in Ellensburg are female as is the judge who hears these cases. If a case is not acrimonious, I am extremely pleased. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I wish all my cases were not acrimonious, because I don't believe that ex-spouses need to hate each other at the end of a case. However, that is not always the way things end up. Another oddity about this post is the comment about my billing. Apparently, there was "little possibility to earn big money" so my "prompt" billing statements (which are mailed out on the 20th of each month) cannot have been very large. And since there is no complaint about the amount charged for my services, I assume that the price I charged was fair. I do not lose interest in cases that are not acrimonious, but I am in court quite often on the ones that ARE acrimonious, and sometimes those take more time. That is why I have a very knowledgable legal assistant. She knows all about the cases and is always informed about everything. I know that the statement she was "inadequately informed" is incorrect because of the dozens and dozens of compliments I have received about the quality of my legal assistant. Finally, Julie moved away in February of this year. So any interaction with her would have been over 5 months ago. I am wondering why it would take someone this long to post something like this. Again, I get the impression this is not a client or a former client. I think this may be an adverse party who is now angry. However, if this is an actual former client, call me. Send me an email. Let me know who you are and what the problems were. That will enable me to address any issues. Unfortunately, anonymous posts do not allow me (or any attorney for that matter) to do that.

Poor Communication Then Withdrew

Jim is a smart guy that is good at what he does, but I had a small incident with him and instead of trying to resolve it he simply withdrew from my case and left me hanging. I had tried for several days to contact him through both phone and email and never received a response when I had some time-sen...sitive issues in my case. His assistant was out for the week so I expected a delay, but I didn't receive any response at all. I became irritated and had sent him an email about his lack of communication with me, and his only response was a letter to withdraw from my case. He had spoken with my ex's attorney during this time, but didn't have enough time to respond to the client that was paying him. This was the first time I ever had an issue with Jim, and was the last.

As this client indicated, there was a day or two without a response as my assistant was out of the office because of a death in the family. However, there were no "time-sensitive issues" in this case. I received a lengthy email at 12:35 a.m. on a Friday. I had no time to respond that day, and received another email at 10:26 p.m. the same day indicating "I cannot get a response out of you." He then proceeded to inform me that he was "going to file on Monday" 4 or 5 different motions in the case. I cannot stay in a case if a client is going to file items on their own. Unfortunately, there are many times when attorneys cannot get back to you in the specific time-frame that you believe is necessary. While we all try our best to do so, most attorneys are juggling dozens and dozens of cases, in and out of court and meetings, and when their assistant or office staff is out of the office, communication can be delayed. In this day of instant communication through email and text messages, clients sometimes have an unrealistic expectation of how quickly attorneys can respond. We try to address that at the initial meeting with a client. Our office policy, which was communicated to this client several times, is that if you need to speak to the attorney on your case, the best way to ensure that happens is to simply make a phone appointment. I withdrew from this case because the client was going to file items in this case (1) which he had no legal basis to file and would likely end up with him having terms imposed against him, and (2) when he had an attorney representing him. The irritation at the delayed communication is completely understandable, and that was completely my office's fault. However, I cannot remain in a case if the client will be filing documents, motions, etc. without the attorney.

Family law case

Jim Denison and his team are repesenting me with my custody and my divorce. We are working though the details but what a great job he is doing. He understands what to do and knows how to vocalize the argument to the court. I just moved here from the east coast and I am so thankful I was able to find ...him. He knows the rules of law and is the guy you want in your corner because he is prepared to fight for you. You will not have to shop around for an attourney once you find Jim I give him an excellent rating.

He is a people person, and a positive influence on his community; Kittitas County is lucky to have him. Mr. Denison mentored me as a young attorney for about three years. I will be in his debt for the remainder of my career for his advice and the time he invested in helping me develop as a lawyer. Landlord or tenant lawyer | Jan 18

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"Mr. Denison and I just concluded an interesting unlawful detainer, where the lease had not yet expired, triggering the ability of the tenants to pay off the judgment and be restored to their tenancy. Mr. Denison was a true professional to work with, clearly knows his stuff and is deserving of my sincerest praise for his collegiality. Practicing law can make lawyers abrasive, and it is to Mr. Denison's credit that he handled this case in a highly professional manner. If I needed to make a referral in Kittitas County, it would be to him. Elizabeth Powell"
