I used Ms. Lighty for my divorce. I was married for only five years yet was ordered by the court to pay my x wife 2500 a month in spousal support for two years while my X wife refused to seek work. My x wife was also able to keep all of the tax refunds and I was ordered to pay all community debt. There were no children involved and this marriage was right at 5 years. Ms Lighty rarely spoke when in front of the Judge and always agreed with any ruling. I cannot state just how disappointed I am with her.

My husband and I hired her to draw up our divorce papers. We had agreed on everything before our initial appointment and brought in every document, account balances, names addresses, phone numbers, every single thing she needed in order to prepare the divorce. The filing papers were wrong,
(she missed a HUGE agreement we had for spousal support).
After that was corrected she filed in a timely manner. Then we never heard from her. After almost three months I called because the 90 day waiting period was up that week, only to find out the assistant had us on her to do list! They were very busy I was told and could squeeze us in next week. Fully expecting to be signing papers on that appointment but, we sat there once again explaining what we had agreed to while she asked for all the documents and information that we provided her on our first visit. They were in the file she had sitting in front of her had she bothered to look in that file during the last three months. I am not divorced yet.Would never go back or refer her to anyone.

I had my divorce back in 2009. Catherine did help ( or should I say Shannon since I never really had any contact with Catherine). I already had the child support thing figured out and the amount i had to pay was already done. So what does my own attorney go and do?? She, for some reason that i still dont understand, re-did the papers up and said that I had to pay more! I told her its already done and filed in court why would I want to pay more?! Basically i was paying her to do research on how I could pay more on a case that was already one sided with the state of course favoring women in most cases. It was a very frustrating time and she did not make it any easier. She did not have any good thoughts or good info that would help me in my case ( parenting plan). The day that we were in court and everything was settled and i did not get the outcome I was looking for she gave some half ass comment about why the judge should consider it again. I guess that kind of summs up the whole experience: "half ass" everything. I was young and inexperienced as far as a divorce goes and I dont feel like she took just a bit of time to let me know the possibilities of what we we're doing. Shannon was her assistant and she was actually very helpfull. I think she is no longer there, hopefully on to bigger and better things. The only positive thing that Catherine did for me is cut me a break on my retainer. Probably felt guilty for taking my money and not doing much with my case. Im not out to "trash" anybody. Im sure if Catherine wanted to, she probably could've done a good job but she lacked effort. So I'm writting this review just to let people know to please pay close attention to the attorney they hire and make sure that they are attentive and have your well being and your family's well being in mind.

First, Lighty does not do her homework. Her paralegals do everything. She prepares for her court appearances by reviewing the file while waiting her turn to be called up. She dresses in provocative clothing and behaves with the other lawyers in and out of the courtroom as if it's a daily social event instead of representing her client's best interests. Her paralegals and receptionist are rude with little to no patience for basic questions or concerns and this is probably because they do the lion's share of the work and are exhausted. I was not kept informed and then everything would start rolling again once I called to ask about my case. Took almost 2 years for my divorce to finalize because of the constant high conflict instigated by her and my spouse's attorney. It was like an ongoing fight between the two of them while clients and children suffered in the background. I asked repeatedly to use mediation techniques and was not heard. I didn't realize how she had wrapped me up in the conflict until my divorce was over and I was able to step aside from all of it. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone.

The initial estimate for our case was far lower than the actual costs. We had to call her office many times to find out the status of our case. We did not feel as though she was OUR advocate, as much as she was a "fellow" lawyer with opposing counsel.
