I hired Johnnie Holtmann to represent me in a divorce action. I needed a quick infusion of cash in order to pay some bills, including his attorney bill. He recommended that I use the qualified domestic relations order (QDRO) process to transfer funds from my wife’s account. The court ordered that the...se funds be transferred as a “fixed” amount. Unfortunately, the result was that the transfer took four months instead of a few weeks. The bottom line was that I relied on his legal recommendations and that damaged me. My credit score suffered because I could not pay my bills in a timely way. I also lost money in the transaction because the monies were not put into a “fixed” account such as a savings account, but were put into a “variable” account that lost roughly 9 percent of its value over that time period.
