Fair, Reasonable, and Explains the Law

Mr. Meserve responds to emails and questions in a through manner. He explains the options for his clients and ultimately gives you the choice to do what is best for you. He listens to his clients with compassion and then gets right down to what the legal aspects of your case is. Mr. Meserve is bright... and reasonable. Opposing counsel in my divorce and child custody is known to be a bulldog and a great attorney. Mr. Meserve still young is and will be a great attorney as well. I appreciate Mr. Meserve telling me not to listen to the opposing counsels noise and his client to scare me in the letters, court documents, and correspondence. I am not versed in the legal system and my ex- husband as of today is an attorney and admistrative law judge himself. Divorce is not easy for all who are involved especially when there is domestic violence or an accusation of it, and a he said she said. Connolly, Tacon, Meserve can handle these cases with confidence and perseverance. I appreciate Mr. Meserve's legal bed side manner. Some attorneys have sold their soul and do the pomp and circumstance. Mr. Meserve has his entact with the facts.

An advocate for women - and men alike

During an extremely difficult time in my life (divorce/child custody/ domestic violence) with court appearances scheduled sometimes with only a days’ notice, and finances basically frozen with time pertinent financial issues, a new lawyer, recently licensed, joined the firm Connolly, Tacon, and Meser...ve. I felt like I was living a nightmare. I needed help and felt really unprepared and uneducated. I tried to file everything on my own but found the packet very very intimidating. Not to mention that my now "soon to be ex" had hired the razzle dazzle fancy attorney and I quickly realized I too would have to get legal council. More than three people recommended Connolly Tacon and Meserve, so I called, and within a week, also had retained council. The firm itself has countless accolades for family law and is well respected in Thurston County. I knew they would be a good investment and was most convinced by others who have had to walk thru Thurston County Family Court also. There is nothing I wouldn't do for my kids. After Kevin joined the firm it was my initial attorney who encouraged me to switch my legal counsel to the new partner, Mr. Kevin Meserve. Although he was young and a new lawyer in Thurston County, I found him to be professional, compassionate and eager to help me move through the legalities needed and truly move on with my life. He always took the time to explain the court process as it enfolded and was readily available as emergency situations came up and strategies needed to be discussed. I did not want a cheerleader style attorney, I wanted one who could help me gauge potential rulings and be a strong advocate for my family. He was always patient, gentle and kind as he explained the not so fun legal side of the various situations. He reached out and further responded quickly. He is comfortable and well versed in front of judges and commissioners (as I consistently stood nervously) which was a bonus in court as it helped me not break down because court is always scary. He made sure he and I were well prepared for anything the judge might ask for or expect. He wasn’t limited to a 9 to 5 work schedule, which would have been nice for him, but didn’t always fit into the needs of the day. Accommodating my minimal time, empathizing with the changes occurring in my life and truly guiding me to ensure I was able to have the best outcome possible. His approach is to be fair and consider both sides. I was glad I had made the change as encouraged by my previous lawyer. It was a good decision to go forward with Mr. Merserve as my attorney. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for or needing a lawyer that would walk them through the process with a firm grasp on the legal process and patience to explain it all. None of us get married thinking our marriage will fail. I never planned on getting divorced nor thought I would have to be educated on the process of dissolving it. None of us have children thinking that one day we will see them only part of the time. Without the help of Mr. Meserve the process would have been much more painful. I feel confident in my final dissolution and my final parenting plan. If you find yourself in my shoes – hire Mr. Kevin Meserve.

Unprofessional, uninformed, unprepared

His background is in family law, yet he assured me he could handle criminal cases just as well. I was directed by the court to seek a professional evaluation. He failed to conduct basic due diligence and sent me to an inadequately credentialed professional from out of town. He did not make a phone ca...ll to the prosecution to confirm this choice would be acceptable, despite my repeated requests. I wrote him a letter stating I didn't want him to continue to represent me and he responded that I would not be able to find anyone who would do anything different than what he was already doing. During this critical time, instead of following up with the prosecution, he took an extended evaluation, returning just before my court appearance date. I found out 24 hours before my court appearance that upon review of the court files, that the prosecution would not accept the evaluation. This caused unfavorable outcomes in court as it meant I missed my compliance deadline. It also caused me financial damage because I had to go through the entire evaluation process again - I incurred significant financial damages because this caused an unnecessary 2 month prolongation of a court order preventing me from returning home. This order would have been lifted on my first court date if I had been directed to the right evaluator with the right credentials. This lawyer did not demonstrate an acceptable level of professionalism. I made it clear to him I did not want to pursue family law avenues, just address the criminal case at hand. Despite this, he worked up a separate family law case and billed me for all the work, work that I specifically and repeatedly made clear to him I did not want him to perform. He stated in court that I had made the mistake of choosing the wrong evaluator. I did not authorize him to say anything like that in court. I confronted him about these issues directly following. He became smug and defensive, and rather than take responsibility was quick to point out that whatever happened wrong, it was all ultimately because I broke the law in the first place. He did this in a loud and condescending manner, and in front of others directly involved in the case. This was very upsetting to be treated this way publicly by my own legal defense, especially since I was never convicted of anything. I had asked him to follow up to see if certain provisions of my continence could be shortened, and without researching it at all, he said it was impossible. He also let me know that the outcome in court could certainly have been achieved if I had just represented myself. He then presented his notice to withdraw as my lawyer. After this, I decided to represent myself. I was able to achieve the amended changes this lawyer had said were not possible. I contacted this lawyer to try and work out our differences. I asked him to reimburse me what I paid for all the costs associated with the rejected evaluation. His response was to "forgive" what I owed him for the family law case work, which I never asked him to do in the first place. He has rejected my attempts to reach a formal settlement with him on these matters and refuses to admit any wrongdoing. It is a fact that he is inexperienced. It is a fact that he is working for a firm in which his mother is a partner. It is a fact that I would never recommend him to anyone, ever.
