Disappointing Juvenile Representation — I Did Not Feel Advocated For

Christine Newbry represented me when I was a juvenile involved in the Washington State juvenile justice system. Looking back on that experience, I remain deeply disappointed with the quality of representation I believe I received. In my opinion, Ms. Newbry failed to provide the vigorous advocacy I n...eeded at a particularly vulnerable time in my life. I did not feel that she adequately challenged the system, questioned the circumstances of my case, or fought to protect my interests. My experience left me believing that plea negotiations and moving cases through the system took priority over meaningful advocacy for the young person being represented. I also believe I ultimately received more time in custody than I should have. Juvenile defense attorneys have an especially important responsibility. They represent children whose futures can be profoundly affected by decisions made in court. Those children deserve attorneys who will challenge questionable decisions, carefully examine their cases, and ensure their voices are heard. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Ms. Newbry. I felt more like another case being processed through the system than a young person whose rights and future deserved a strong defense. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Christine Newbry for juvenile defense representation.

  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
