James Harlan Wendell

I am an associate with Riddell Williams, P.S., and have experience representing companies in a variety of complex litigation matters throughout the country. 

I have represented technology and biotechnology companies in matters involving contract disputes, licensing agreements, and intellectual property rights.  For example, I defended an international biotechnology company in a lawsuit involving contract and fraud claims, winning a motion to dismiss.  I also successfully represented a local technology company in an arbitration against an international telecom company involving a dispute over a licensing agreement.  I also have experience enforcing noncompete and nondisclosure agreements in Washington, including successfully obtaining temporary restraining orders (TROs) and preliminary injunctions. 

I have also defended technology companies and others in employment discrimination lawsuits.  For example, I successfully represented a national technology company in a disability discrimination lawsuit.  I also defended a large state institution against a gender discrimination suit, winning summary judgment in the matter.

I have published articles on a variety of topics, including big data and the practice of law, law and technology, trade secrets, and class actions.  I have also been quoted and featured in articles about law and technology.  I was named a “Legal Techie” by the Puget Sound Business Journal.

While in law school, I served as Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Law Review, and received the Dean's Medal.
