Carrie Griffin Basas

Carrie Griffin Basas is a Washington attorney advising nonprofits, tax-exempt organizations, and values-focused businesses through Aligna’s legal advisory practice, the A-Line. Her work focuses on nonprofit and corporate governance, accessibility and nondiscrimination law, and organizational decision-making under regulatory and operational constraints.

From 2022–2024, Carrie served as Executive Director of Disability Law Colorado and Disability Rights Washington. Before that, she led the Washington State Governor’s Office of the Education Ombuds for seven years under Governor Jay Inslee. Across executive leadership, public service, and legal practice, she has worked to strengthen systems affecting education, disability rights, and nonprofit governance.

Carrie has also been a law professor whose teaching has focused on civil rights, employment law, disability, health, ethics, and criminal justice. She has served on nonprofit and foundation boards for more than two decades and brings board-level experience to her advisory work.

She holds degrees from Swarthmore College (BA), the University of Washington (MEd), and Harvard Law School (JD), and is licensed to practice law in Washington State.
