Unfortunately I am recently divorced. I paid for several home improvements and when the judge asked for a fair market value of what the improvements were worth she had no answer so the division of assets was split with me receiving what I put for the down-payment and nothing else. Later when it came ...to paying my ex she was pushing me to give him half of what the appraisal was instead of what the buyout offer was which I agreed to. She told his lawyer it would take a couple weeks to pay him even though the type of loan I got would take a month. She ended up dropping me when I was on vacation because having her tell me day after day to pay my ex felt like unnecessary stress so she gave me the ultimatum of either call her back or she will quit.
