Serious Concerns About Representation, Lack of Preparation, and Broken Fees

My family law experience involving Marcia Cho, Robert Morgan, and James C. McGillis was deeply disappointing and had devastating consequences for me and my daughter. During my family-law proceedings, opposing counsel made serious allegations regarding our home and property. I completely disputed tho...se claims and heavily documented the excellent condition of the property myself, recording a comprehensive walkthrough video showing the home's condition in real time and sending detailed photographs to my legal team. Marcia Cho explicitly stated how much she wanted this case, convincing my family to trust her completely. However, she failed to appear at a critical court appearance where these severe property and personal allegations were being evaluated. Instead, she left an inexperienced, brand-new law graduate, Robert Morgan, to represent me in her place. When I called Cho in deep distress, she simply told me she was "too expensive" and hung up on me. When I questioned James C. McGillis about this absolute lack of preparation and why his attorney wasn't where she was contracted to be, he claimed he would look into it. Instead of addressing the firm's failure, I received an email the very next day terminating the firm's representation entirely and labeling me a "difficult client." This abandonment happened while my daughter and I were stranded in a hotel room, having just been displaced from our home due to the precise allegations Cho failed to appear and defend against. Because we were left completely in the lurch, a new attorney obtained through the official Washington State Bar Lawyer Referral Service subsequently stepped in to protect us and handle the situation. This included addressing a major dispute involving approximately $23,000 in legal fees demanded by Inslee Best. While the firm provided an itemized list of charges, they completely ghosted us and ceased all communication the exact moment my new referral service attorney demanded a copy of the actual, signed fee agreement. I expected competent preparation, basic communication, and professional accountability. Instead, my family was penalized and discarded during an active crisis for asking legitimate questions. Anyone vetting Marcia Cho or this firm must know they replaced contracted representation with an unvetted graduate at a critical hearing, failed to produce a signed fee agreement, and walked away when formally challenged by a state referral network attorney.
