Biography
William serves as legal fiduciary counsel to sponsors, trustees and fiduciaries of large institutional pension and health benefit funds in the private and public sectors. His extensive experience includes representing national Fortune 50 and 500 corporation benefit plans, State and municipal pension systems, and multi-state Taft Hartley benefit trusts. He addresses benefit plan/trust design and administration, prudence and conflict standards in fiduciary plan asset management, and compliance with trust and tax legal requirements. His practice covers party-in-interest and prohibited transaction analysis, exemptions, plan mergers, plan asset/QPAM operating entities, governmental ruling requests, and advocacy in complex litigation, including class-action cases, with issues before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and various federal district courts. He has been recognized as one of the premier lawyers nationally in this field, selected as a Felllow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and elected to its Board of Governors. Appointments include selection by the White House as a White House Delegate to the First National Summit on Pension Policy authorized by Congress, serving as an advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Labor on pension and health policies with the ERISA Advisory Council, and appointments to Washington State commissions on health care reform.
