Back in 2008 I had to declare 'Chapter 13' to save my company. I had been in business since 1987, but the crash of 2008 did me in. As it is a 'sole prop' and I was on the hook for all its debts. I was sent to him by a different firm I trusted.
I was scared out of my wits, but this lawyer, Dick Wotipka put me at ease. He pointed out that huge banks were walking away from bad debt, I should not feel bad about the small amount I was dealing with.
He set up the plan that I could follow, and here 5 years later I am OUT of Chapter 13, and I saved my business, and had begun to financially recover
Here is the kicker.
Over the last year, my old bank (which for discretion, I will not name here) came after me for the debts that were settled. This is illegal...but they called me 4, 5 times, calling me at work.
But this lawyer just sent them a letter telling them to cease and desist, and told me just yesterday that if they DONT stop, he can take them to court.
Now, this guy is not some youngster, he has been around for decades, and knows how to talk to banks, etc, and make it stick.
He also got a predatory lender who bought my home loan to agree to a short sale, even though they were really, really difficult to deal with. This has saved me tens of thousands of dollars in the long run.
You WANT him in your corner if you are going to have to declare bankruptcy of one kind or another.
And he has a sense of humor. I brought an article from the New Yorker about the decline in debtor's prisons in the 19th century in America, and he thought it was hilarious, made a xerox copy of it to show his partner, etc.
So, not only competent and hardworking, but has a sense of humor.
I give him 9.5 stars out of 10 possible.

This Lawyer is fantastic.
My first visit to this man's office, I was terrified I would lose everything.
He saved my business, and in the first meeting also "scraped me off the ceiling", calming me down. ((For people depressed or terrified about being in financial trouble, I cannot over state how calming his presence was)).
He has a dry wit, and made trenchant remarks about the state of bankruptcy that put me at ease. The whole chapter 13 process, though not painless, was made more 'matter of fact' and easier to go through because of his professionalism, and personal warmth.
He comes off as being quite brilliant in person. He was available for help and questions after the initial meeting these past 3 1/2 years: I can always drop in and ask him questions; he is very good about that.
My business has recovered, and I am back on the road to prosperity. And much of it is due to hiring this lawyer, I am sure.
I heard about him from a personal referral from another lawyer, who I also was very happy with.

I have hired Mr. Wotipka on 4 occasions over the past 23 years. As with most people I have had my share of legal issues. First, a chapter 13 caused by extreme medical expenses, next an employment dispute. Then He assisted in my mother’s financial affairs before and after her death, and most recently, a very long and complicated litigation.
In every case Mr. Wotipka showed a perfect balance of compassion and professionalism. Mr. Wotipka showed great concern not only on a personal level but also with the legalities of each case with a desire to do what is right. His attention to detail and determination to get to the facts of each case has been very impressive. Whether it was collecting discovery facts, taking depositions, his organizational skills or his confidence in a courtroom venue Mr. Wotipka always made me feel comfortable that he is there not only as his profession, but for the comfort and assurance to his clients that they are in good hands.
In each of my cases Mr. Wotipka was very successful in gaining a positive outcome that was the most beneficial for me not only financially, but also in protecting me from any future problems that could arise.
I have recommended several friends to him feeling most comfortable that they too will be cared for and in good hands. Recommending a fiend is usually an uncomfortable thing to do but I can honestly say that I would recommend anyone to Mr. Wotipka if they are in need of legal counsel and afraid or uncomfortable about what is happening to them.
Call Mr. Wotipka at The Broadway Law Group in Seattle and you will not be disappointed. He will be honest with you and will treat you with the upmost integrity that is rare and hard to find without someone whom he has helped referring him.
From this client, the best referral could never thank Richard enough for how he has treated me and resolved every legal issue I have had.
