Walter Quentin Impert

Walter is an associate in Dorsey's Tax, Trusts and Estates practice group. His practice focuses on all aspects of wealth management, including implementing practical and tax efficient estate plans, business succession planning, nonprofit organizations, and assisting executors and trustees in fulfilling their duties.

• Estate Planning
  Walter works with clients to develop fundamental estate plans, including wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney and health care directives, and to accomplish more advanced estate planning such as gifting strategies, use of irrevocable trusts and family companies, and planned giving techniques to minimize or avoid estate tax.
  
  
• Estate and Trust Administration
  Walter advises fiduciaries regarding all aspects of their duties in probate or trust administration, including identifying and protecting the estate assets, responding to creditors claims, obtaining any necessary court orders, preparing and filing federal and state estate tax returns, distributing assets, and closing the estate. 
   
• Dispute Resolution
  Walter has successfully negotiated binding trust and estate dispute resolution agreements that avoid court proceedings and preserve family harmony, thereby minimize expenses to the trust or estate. If court proceedings are necessary, Walter’s experience in estate planning, probate and trust administration allows him to represent his clients effectively. 
   
• Tax Advice
  Walter has a current and in-depth understanding of the federal and Washington state transfer tax laws, including federal gift tax, estate tax and generation-skipping transfer tax and the Washington estate tax, as well as federal income taxation of trusts and estates.
  
  
• Tax Exempt Organizations and Planned Giving
  Walter assists clients in establishing tax exempt nonprofit organization and incorporating charitable giving in their estate plans. Walter has assisted clients in forming and obtaining 501(c)(3) status for private foundations, public charities, and supporting organizations. In addition, Walter regularly helps clients minimize estate and gift tax through efficient charitable tax planning such as donor advised funds, charitable lead trusts, and charitable remainder trusts.
