Lorn Walberg

When most children start to speak, their first words are “Ma-Ma” or “Da-Da.”  Lorn’s first words were “why not?”   And, as his parents will vouch for, and his colleagues will confirm, his question, today is still, “why-not?”  While many are carefully explaining why something cannot be done…. Lorn is spending his time figuring out how, together, it becomes possible.

Lorn believes his role, as your advocate, should not be spent as a grief counselor but rather an adventure guide.  As he says, “if you are exploring a beautiful river valley and are caught in a downpour you can` either surround yourself with sandbags and hopeS to whether the storm; or, you can blaze a new trail and take to higher ground.”  Lorn believes the same is true with the law, you can either baton down the hatches and “pray for relief;” no pun intended, or find new footing, climb above the mayhem, gain perspective and an understanding others may not have and, most importantly, have fun getting there … After all ... getting there is half the battle.

At first you might ask yourself why you would want an attorney who is also a psychologist?  After all, not only is he going to tell you exactly what you are going to do to prevail in the situation but, also, what happened to you in your formative years that landed you here in the first place.  Thankfully, quite the opposite is true. Lorn uses his unique skill set to anticipate and provide for the needs of his clients, thwarting the moves of his opponents.

In researching this brief profile it became apparent that, not only is Lorn always wearing a smile, so are his clients; and almost always, as he walks clients out you will hear him say something along the lines of “Captain, unfurl your sails, catch the wind and enjoy the breeze, you have a good navigator on board.”

If you ask Lorn how he got his easy going manner with his clients or, as he says, “new friends;” he will look you in the eye and tell you, “it took almost 32 years of my life to reach 2 seconds of “DUH” on a 95 degree Saturday afternoon standing on a red dirt road, in the dust bowl, 8 miles North-East of the Texas border in a place called Shattuck Oklahoma.  I had an epiphany; I realized I was the only person within 1000 miles of where I stood wearing Italian loafers and a 3 piece suit and I was the one that looked like the fool.”  So he did what any rational man would do …  He hightailed it to Wal-Mart for a baseball cap, T-shirt and Jeans.

Lorn will tell you time and again what he learned, later that evening, in a t-shirt, by a campfire, with a beer can in one hand and greasy paper plate in the other is that “there is a big difference between being an attorney and being an advocate.  An attorney argues the law for the sake of the law.  An advocate argues the law for the sake of the client; and the client, being a person, doesn’t really talk to an attorney but that same person will bear their soul to their advocate, making their advocate a much more powerful attorney.”  Today, as you read this, that is what you need and you think  you should embrace that need.
