I graduated from Brigham Young University, receiving my J.D., cum laude, in 1985 and my B.A. in American Studies in 1982. Afterward I began clerking for the Honorable Ricardo Hinojosa, United States District Judge, Southern District of Texas.
I grew up in Washington, and after completing my education and some work experience out of state, I returned to the Seattle area in 1987. I first worked as an associate attorney at the law firms of Karr Tuttle Campbell (1987 - 1991) and Short Cressman and Burgess (1991 - 1992). Then, in 1993, I opened my own law office where I practiced for twelve years. In 2005, I joined forces with Jacob Menashe to form Hickman Menashe, P.S.
I am a past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Washington State Bar Association and a member of Washington State's chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. I speak regularly to community and service groups, such as the United Way, helping to educate people about estate planning, special needs trusts and other legal issues.
I am active in my church and community, where I frequently work with the Boy Scouts of America. I enjoy spending time with my wife and two sons.
