John J. Greaney graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1975, earning a BA in Political Science.  He next attended the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, obtaining his JD in 1980.    

During the first seven years of his practice, Mr. Greaney was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, and later a Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Montesano, Washington, trying hundreds of cases.  In 1987 he joined the defense law firm of Lee, Smart, Cook, Martin & Patterson in Seattle, Washington.  While there, he defended clients in a variety of civil litigation areas including: business defense, commercial litigation, premises liability, product defects, professional liability cases, character defamation, personal injuries, employment, and environmental litigation.  In addition to service in these specific areas, Mr. Greaney also provided defense to those engaged in the professional fields of healthcare, architecture, engineering, and construction. 

In 1994, Mr. Greaney founded his own firm in Bellevue, Washington—The Law Offices of John J. Greaney.  His practice emphasized personal injury litigation for both plaintiffs and defendants, focusing on serious automobile collisions, and medical and dental malpractice claims.  In private practice, Mr. Greaney represented hundreds of clients in a variety of claims including traumatic brain injury, failure to diagnose, severed facial nerve injuries, spine injuries, knee surgeries, and wrongful death.  In 2002, he obtained the largest jury verdict in Washington in a dental malpractice case.  Additionally, a significant portion of Mr. Greaney’s practice included the defense of healthcare providers in administrative and disciplinary matters, as well as representation in a variety of other legal settings unique to the health care professional.

Realizing a significant need for quality legal representation in South King County communities, in 2003, Mr. Greaney founded with several other attorneys, a full-service law firm in South King County.  At Hanis Greaney Zoro/Hanis Greaney/Hanis Greaney Prothero, PLLC, Mr. Greaney continued to emphasize his practice in the areas of personal injury litigation, and healthcare provider representation.  Mr. Greaney proudly founded his own firm,  Greaney Law Firm, PLLC in November 2007.

Since becoming an attorney, Mr. Greaney has been a long-standing member of the Washington State Bar Association, American Bar Association Litigation Section, Washington State Trial Lawyers Association (WSTLA), National Crime Victims Bar Association, and the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association (WDTL).  He is often a speaker at State Bar and legal association functions, as well as dental and medical seminars.  He has litigated cases in virtually all of the 39 counties in Washington State, as well as before the various disciplinary boards within the Department of Health.  His experience includes more than one hundred jury trials and hundreds of arbitrations and mediations. 

Competing for his time, Mr. Greaney participates in several hobbies.  He is also a big baseball fan and enjoys going to Mariner’s games.  John is also a devoted husband and father who likes attending his children’s soccer, baseball and softball games.
