Michael Jon Layton

Mike is a northwest native and business advisor and attorney with Equinox Business Law Group who helps businesses by using his 15 years of experience operating local businesses and consulting to help clients grow and make smart decisions.

Mike has been general counsel and well as a manger of several businesses. He has also worked as a consultant helping businesses streamline their sales and operational process as well as provide legal advice so they can make informed business decisions.  Mike cofounded a company in the home improvement space that grew from 0 to $6 million dollars in revenue is 2 years. Mike was also the COO and legal counsel for a startup in the renewable energy sector. Mike set up operations, and oversaw the engineering and sales teams for the company. He was also instrumental in fundraising and navigating the various state and federal regulations applicable to their energy products.  Mike’s experience as a business operator, entrepreneur, and business lawyer enables him to walk in the client’s shoes, understand a client’s needs and goals and craft practical solutions that make sense for the business. Some key areas of practice are general business law, real estate law, construction law, contracts, business purchase and sale transactions, asset valuation disputes, partnership and owner agreements, and financing transactions.

Mike grew up in Tacoma and Gig Harbor and paid his way through college working for local companies that processed lumber and fish as well as a subcontractor for Boeing. He understands the value these companies add to the Puget Sound and the issues they face.

Mike holds a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law, and a business degree from the Foster’s School of business. He has taught accredited courses on real estate law and valuing closely held companies.   When Mike isn’t in the office, he can be found exploring Puget Sound or snow skiing.  He is also an avid sports fan and can be found coaching premier soccer or watching his sons play lacrosse and football.
