Poor Representation

I hired Cristina to represent me in my divorce in March of 2023. At first she was very responsive and things got off to a goods start. She filled my divorce and had my former spouse served within the same month. I provided all documents she requested, attended the parenting class within the same mont...h. The situation went left quickly regarding response times from Cristina, she would ask me for the same documentation I had already provided. No updates from Cristina for weeks only after me reaching out several times via email & text. Weeks would go by & I did not hear from her. My ex decided to file a child support order in the state she resides which resulted in me being served paperwork. I provided this paperwork to Cristina as soon as I received it & asked for her to advise on how to respond or intervene as since I filed the divorce in WA state. This was time sensitive & required a response within a specific timeframe. I asked her several times for advice and received no response. She responded AFTER the due date only to tell me that she could not help me as she was not licensed to practice law in that state. I got stuck with paying a higher than necessary and incorrect amount of child support. My ex & I came to an agreement which I conveyed to Cristina. She asked for our parenting plan, distribution of our debt & assets so she could draft a final order for us to review and sign. I submitted all this, according to her the opposing counsel was not being responsive, & she said she would have a draft by end of week & would set up a call for us to go over it. End of week came & I never received a draft. I followed up with her & no response. Once again I followed up via email and no response, this was week two, week three went by, as did week four. I texted and emailed her several times. Finally almost two months after her email stating she would draft a final order she responded via text that she was out of the country tending to some personal family matters and would get back to me once she was in town. I reached out to her once again and her response was that she was not aware of what final order draft I was referring to and for my ex and I to come to an agreement and to send her what it is we agreed on. This was the final straw for me, also all the previous circumstances should have been enough. During this time I started looking for new representation as I felt she was not working out for me. A week went by between her text stating she was out of the country and the next time I reached out to her. I once again asked for an accounting of work done and remaining balance of the retainer. She said she would have it by end of week because she had many pending court deadlines and was really busy. End of week came and nothing. At this point I hired a new attorney. On several occasions I requested accounting on work done on my case which she completely ignored. She finally provided an invoice showing she had already gone through almost 65% of the retainer mostly exhausted by communication between her and I and some time spent communicating with the opposing counsel. Basically all that was accomplished in 8 months (March - November 2023) was filing the paperwork and serving my former spouse. Once my new attorney removed her from my case I asked for the return of the remaining balance of the retainer. Now just over one and a half months my new attorney has been able to get all the information from opposing counsel and the divorce should be finalized any day now. I originally went with Cristina to represent me because there were some good reviews, in hindsight not as many as I would have preferred to get a better feel. Especially after seeing one very concerning review from a previous client, where she left a negative review and was threatened and intimidated with a lawsuit by Cristina for leaving such review. To me that is very unprofessional and highly unethical on her part if it is true to say the least. Although this was my experie

Do not hire her!!

Cristina was my divorce attorney. It's hard to believe she had any education, background or understanding of family law. She turned my simple and winner divorce case to a 10 days trial and happily lost my case and blamed it on bad luck. She didn't listen to her client at all. She ignored the truth ...I was presenting to her; she chose not to submit many of my useful evidence; didn't use my witnesses; she ignored my objections, she just didn't care about me!... She bulked charged me and when I asked for details she got mad at me (insulted me) and then sent me a random list that some were not even related to my case. She showed me no professionalism. She came to the court with absolutely no plans ... she is a poor performer and struggling with presenting a simple case. She has bad attitude and allow herself to insult her client (I'm a modest, respectful and professional engineer working in one of the biggest IT company in world). It took me one whole year after my divorce and hundreds of emails and phone calls and later another attorney involved until finally I got my case binder from her in hard copy format and not electronic as she was never capable to manage the files and documents. At last she emailed me and called me 'rude' and bunch of nonsense which I chose to ignore. I feel sorry for her and her clients; I think being attorney is not her thing.

Would've been better off doing my own divorce

My ex and I are actually good friends and mutually agreed on divorcing. We had no kids, no disputes over property or money, and happily share our dog. We even decided to pay each other vesting stocks for options acquired during marriage. Should've been easiest divorce ever. It was not with Christine.... There was poor communication including tacked on fees for missed court dates that we were never informed of and lack of attention to detail when filing paperwork which led to extra time spent on both sides sorting out mistakes. I didn't eve know the date we were divorced officially until I got paperwork from the court because neither my ex nor I were given a date to show up (we were under impression at least one of us had to be present). We would've divorced Christine and done the filing ourselves if we weren't so far along when we discovered these issues.

Horrible Attorney

I hired Cristina to handle my divorce. This was a huge mistake. Her lack of attention and interest in my case was unacceptable. She never returned my phone calls. She would schedule a telephone conference with me and would not call or answer her phone at the scheduled time. She always had a differen...t excuse for missing the scheduled phone conferences. One of her excuses was that her taxes were due and she could not talk to me because that day was the deadline. Honestly, I did not feel this was my problem. This was inappropriate for her to tell me that as that was her issue and not mine. I never told her "oh I can't pay you because my rent is due today". She would not give a crap because rightfully so my rent is not her issue. So I did not feel that her waiting to the last day to do her taxes was my issue. I know there are no guarantees of anything in any case but as her client she never worked in my best interest. She eventually withdrew because she did not like the fact that I told her she was not interested in my case. For those of you who had a better experience with this attorney....good for you. But I do not recommend her. I did hire another GREAT attorney who actually did his job. The new attorney gave 100 percent energy, effort, time and research to my case which resulted in a successful outcome. Since my case was not a huge money maker for Cristina, it was not important to her so unfortunately she did not deliver.......worst experience EVER!!!

Very professional and compassionate

The first time I heard about Ms Mehling I received an email from her since I was trying desperately in every search avenue I could find to locate a good lawyer to help me with my divorce case. Her email simply read 'I can help you". This she did! Through a very lengthy and ugly divorce case Cristina ...kept her calm, professionalism and treated us both respectfully. Cristina is warm, friendly, very easy to talk to and worked with me in all aspects of my case. I only wish I had found her sooner. Wonderful Lawyer and would certainly recommend her. I actually hired her to represent me in another matter that just came up recently. I know she will do whatever it takes to help me with this matter as well.

This means the attorney did something wrong, but the Bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
