Andrew has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association for over 15 years. For the past decade, he has narrowed his legal practice to focus primarily on the intricacies of family law. With wide-ranging experience in tactful litigation in divorce and custody cases, coupled with years of knowledge as a skilled mediator, he stands as one of the most prominent family law attorneys in King County, Washington.
In addition to his litigation experience, Andrew further assists clients in mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution as a trained mediator. Andrew received training in interest-based mediation from the University of Washington. With a trained mediator and seasoned litigator on your side, you have all bases covered.
Andrew graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in political science. He continued his path into the legal profession at the University of Maryland School of Law, graduating with high honors and in the top 10% of his class. During his time in law school, Andrew was selected by faculty to be a teaching assistant for first-year legal writing classes. Among his various achievements and awards, Andrew held the Meyerowitz Prize for best brief in Maryland’s annual appellate advocacy competition.
Andrew’s passion for the legal profession developed early on. When his high school mock trial team went to state finals, the judge offered Andrew a clerkship position on the spot, conditional only on his successful completion of law school.
Andrew’s attention to detail, strategic methods, and top-notch legal advocacy skills have won him many cases in and out of the courtroom. He passionately fights to protect what his clients hold most important to them.
“The measure of a good result must include its cost and durability – whether it restores rather than erodes stability in our clients’ lives and livelihood.” – Andrew May

I hired Andrew to review documents produced by my wife's lawyer (she was the petitioner), and to give me general guidance on the divorce process, my rights, etc. Andrew was always extremely quick in getting back to me, even taking my calls in his car on occasion, and his advice was uniformly helpful...
"I endorse this lawyer. Mr. May is a skilled advocate and fights hard for his clients. He is a true professional and was a pleasure to work with."
"I endorse this lawyer. Honest and easy to work with. He is very competent and knows the right battles to fight. It was a pleasure to work on a case with him."
"I had a case against Andrew and he was a skilled and worthy opponent. So much so, I hired him. Andrew has that natural ability with opposing counsel and the court to make his client's position seem like the most reasonable--without the other side even realizing it! That's the true mark of effective advocacy. I am thankful to have Andrew on our side now and his clients are certainly lucky to have him as their face in negotiations and court. It is easy to see why Andrew has been so amazing in his academic work as well as his profession."
"Andrew and I are former office mates. He gives his clients the peace of mind that comes from knowing that they are in good hands. Andrew takes great care of his clients and he is an absolute pleasure to work with."
"As a fellow attorney in Settle and a former office mate of Andrew's, I appreciate that he provides caring advocacy for his clients. I would not hesitate to recommend Andrew for family law matters."
"Andrew and I were opposing counsel on a dissolution matter. Throughout the entire process, he was wonderful to work with. He was professional, efficient, and communicative - everything you could ask for in an opposing counsel. I whole-heartedly endorse him."
"I've had the opportunity to work together with Andy on a matter and found him to be thoroughly knowledgeable, patient, and altogether well versed on the ins and outs of family law. I would have no hesitancy in referring a family law matter over to him, or turning to him for advice. I heartily endorse this lawyer."
"I have worked with Andrew and I know him to be a compassionate, hard-working advocate for all his clients. Andrew is extremely knowledgeable and understanding of what it takes to excel in this profession. I highly recommend Andrew!"
"I have shared office space with Andy for two years and can easily say that he is a rare gem among family law attorneys. He is extremely patient and has the temperament to manage emotionally charged situations. If I ever need a family law attorney, Andy is the one I will be working with!"
"I have gotten to know Andrew as a committed Collaborative Divorce attorney. He learned under one of the best and I look forward with working with him more."
