Wonderful Bankruptcy Lawyer

I chose Dale Smith to represent me because he called me immediately after I contacted him. He was friendly and concerned. He took the time to get to know my situation and actually listened to me. I was kept in the loop through the entire process and had my questions answered quickly. He alleviate...d so much of my worry and stress.

Keeps me informed when there is something to tell me

I like Dale as a person and as a lawyer. I've worked with lawyers before. Some lawyers make me nervous with wanting things to be done quickly and I feel like I'm holding them up. Dale is relaxed, comfortable to talk to, explains the bankruptcy process thoroughly and gets right to work. When I call w...ith concerns he gets back to me right away if it's something I need to know right away. When he doesn't get back to me right away it's because it wasn't anything I needed to worry about. I think maybe some people have control issues and are having trouble letting someone else handle their financial problems. If I wanted somebody to hold my hand, I'd go see a priest or someone to console me. I want him to give my case the attention, not me. I trust him to take care of it.

Seems undependable...

Dealing with Dale has been a disaster. It takes forever for a response, didn't keep us up to date with what has been going on...had to take a credit counseling class TWICE because his staff was not on top of things. We has EMAIL and SNAIL MAILED paperwork to his office at least twice, and he claims... he never got it or needs it again. In my opinion, really unprofessional, would not even consider hiring again for any reason.

Dale just hung up on me because I told him that I wanted more communication regarding my bankruptcy!!

I paid Dale the start-up fee over 3 weeks ago. I have received only a couple of emails from "Riley Smith" who apparently does the "paper work" and this was only to advise me of what documents didn't turn out well in the faxed info I had sent. I have called and emailed several times to find out what I... should do about the creditors calling me. I have gone through a previous bankruptcy so I know that you can refer them to your attorney but nobody ever told me this with ORE Fresh start, until I had to email twice and finally I got a few words back that I could refer them to their office. After having some additional questions about my case and emailing Riley without a reply, I finally sent Dale an email directly and asked how my case was proceeding and also voiced my concerns about the lack of communication and broken promises on his part regarding a certain issue that I had, which he advised me that he would have Riley talk to me about this. He told me that he has many clients, which I knew because he had told me that the only other time that we had talked and after I told him that I felt that the lack of communication was in my opinion unprofessional he told me that he would mail my money back to me and hung up on me! I will be reporting him to the State Board today. I only wish that I had read this website and what the many others have said here that have had this same type of issue. I would never recommend this "Man" to anybody! I personally think that he is the one who added the good review here as it’s the same language that he used on me.

too many eggs in one basket

Had to really keep on them..when I didnt turn a needed document in they didnt let me know I had to find out on my own. Bad communication...takes days to get a response. Had to call and call and email and email. My case isnt done yet so outcome remains to be seen. After three months have never act...ually spoken with Dale just with his assistants. Really have the ride their case to make sure they are on top of things. Personally I think this man is too busy and takes on way to much. I think he knows what he is doing just too many eggs in one basket.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2009.

Reprimand issued in OR, 2009

This means the lawyer did something wrong but the bar did not suspend the lawyer. Typically in this case the lawyer's poor behavior is exposed to the public in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior.
