Sarah E Harlos

Ms. Harlos is a litigation attorney at Francis Hansen Martin LLP in Bend, Oregon, where her practice focuses primarily on family law and complex civil litigation. She represents individuals and families throughout Central Oregon in matters involving divorce, separation, child custody, parenting time, and the representation of children in high-conflict and complex domestic cases. Her approach is thoughtful, strategic, and grounded in achieving practical outcomes during what are often emotionally challenging circumstances.

In addition to her family law practice, Ms. Harlos has developed extensive experience across a wide range of litigation matters, including business disputes, real property litigation, guardianships, conservatorships, and debt collection and judgment enforcement. Her diverse litigation background allows her to navigate complex legal issues with clarity and precision, whether in negotiation or in the courtroom.

Ms. Harlos has significant trial experience and is well-versed in all phases of litigation, from initial case strategy and discovery through trial and resolution. Her legal work is supported by a strong foundation in research and writing, developed during her time as a Senior Law Clerk with the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Portland. In that role, she drafted appellate briefs for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and prepared trial memoranda and motions for the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.

Her professional contributions extend beyond client representation. In 2014, Ms. Harlos was invited to serve on a bench/bar advisory committee for the Circuit Court of Deschutes County, reflecting her respected presence within the local legal community. She is also an author and contributor to Oregon State Bar publications, including Interpreting Oregon Statutes and co-authoring Court-Annexed Arbitration in ADR in Oregon, demonstrating her commitment to advancing legal understanding and practice in the state.

Ms. Harlos is an active member of the Oregon Women Lawyers Association and is deeply involved in the Central Oregon community. She serves on the Board of Directors for both CASA of Central Oregon and the Boys & Girls Club of Bend, supporting organizations dedicated to the well-being and development of children and families.

Outside of her legal practice, Ms. Harlos enjoys spending time with her family, snowboarding in the Central Oregon mountains, running, and exploring Bend’s vibrant local dining scene.
