Former client on street 6 months after attempted murder charge.

I was charged with attempted murder, assault 1 and unlawful use of a weapon. I was facing 10 years minimum, a possible 16 I believe if the sentences ran consecutive. Scott presented the facts of the case to the prosecution. Culpability of the victim for use of a knife against me. Prior criminal... history of the victim. That it took place in my family members home. That the victim was a stranger, this was not a domestic dispute. The fact that I had a concealed handgun permit, and that I had no priors. I was offered 5 years probation and a suspended sentence. Scott wanted to go to trial, but did advise me that there was a small chance as always of course of a conviction. With the insane Orwellian measure 11 system in place of mandatory minimums vs sentencing based on mitigating circumstances, I of course took the deal vs rolling the dice. I walked out of jail with time served, based on Scott Carters "lawyering". With any other local attorney, I would have served time in prison by my estimation. Based on what I seen while serving time in the jail, and how many of the inmates were ignored by their lawyers, and given terrible deals. Scott won't give you a hug and hold your hand and tell you it will al be ok, he is tough. But he is also tough in the court room, when things start to go south and they try to "throw in a little prison time" all of a sudden. I only dealt with him once I must admit, but bottom line, I at least know if you are facing massively trumped up charges and/or are innocent, hire this man and he will do his best to keep you out of prison. I don't KNOW how he is if you are stone cold guilty, but he also had a good reputation in the jail for defending those people to the fullest as well.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Scott Carter has over twenty years' experience in criminal law as a former prosecutor and as a defense attorney in Klamath County. He knows the law, he has an excellent understanding of the Klamath legal landscape as far as the local judges and prosecutors are concerned. If I were ever accused of a crime, I would be in the best of hands if Scott O. Carter accepted my case. I recommend him highly for anything from simple misdemeanors to complicated high-stakes felony cases."
